Growing Pains At North Texas

The Todd Dodge era at North Texas has entered its second year, but don't look for a Sun Belt Conference Championship just yet. One of the reasons is because Dodge is still bringing in his players who are learning his system. And his son, Riley, is expected to be on the red shirt list all season, so wait to see him in action next year.

Sun Belt joins with bowls you've never heard of

There are 34 bowl games scheduled for the end of this year and the beginning of 2009, up one from last year.

First, that is way too many and means 68 teams will play in bowl games, more than half of 119 eligible schools.

Todd Dodge's second season as coach of the University of North Texas football team may not be much better than his first - at least if you believe what the coaches in the Sun Belt Conference say.

UNT sets football kickoff times

The college football season kicks off in a month and a half and the University of North Texas has set the times for its games.

The Mean Green begins at a Big 12 school, Kansas State, at 6 p.m. on Aug. 30.

UNT's first home game is against Tulsa on Sept. 6 at 6 p.m.

Then another big road game at SEC power LSU at 7 p.m. on Sept. 13 in Baton Rouge, La.

The SMU Mustangs will be seeing a lot of their regional rivals in the years to come.

SMU Director of Athletics Steve Orsini announced future series with Baylor, TCU and North Texas. Navy and Stephen F. Austin also agreed to play the Mustangs.

Get out your 2014 calendar.

UNT and SMU have agreed to play four games from 2014-2017, the series could extend to 2025.

There is an option for eight additional games that would be played from 2018-2025.
North Texas is also scheduled to play six games with Army from 2009-2010 and 2016-2019.
