Recently in PGA Tour CategoryTiger never loses when he leads on the final day. It's true again. Everyone in the WFAA sports department was watching anxiously as Woods battled Rocco Mediate through the final holes of the playoff round and the sudden-death hole. Wow. Who says golf doesn't make for good television? ...Just wanted to give you the atmosphere from the 18th hole at yesterday's Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. Those of us in the local media who were there were assembled behind the 18th green. So, while we knew Phil Mickelson had driven the ball well left into the trees, we couldn't see him make his approach shot on 18 because of all the tree cover. So, after he surveyed the shot and went back towards the ball, we waited and watch... Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth has a rich golf history, and with that history, some great stories. Mark Brooks grew up watching the tournament as a kid. "It was a little wilder in those days in the 70's, and since I've been playing, I haven't seen much. I've seen nothing," he says laughing. In 1993, Ian Baker-Finch made national head lines when he got a little breezy on the par 3, 13th. "He took his pants off and... As an avid golfer, Tiger Woods has provided me so much excitement that I've come to expect greatness. But on the 72nd hole of the Arnold Palmer Invitational I actually let out a yell. I hadn't done that in quite some time with Woods because when you expect the greatness, it doesn't come as a surprise. It was a 24 foot putt. Before it, Woods was 0-for-21 on putts longer than 20 feet at the tournament. I knew he'd give it a good run,... |
