I was recently asked to take part in a dance competition. Yeah, dancing! I'm sure you've seen it on ABC. It's all the craze! The event is Top Hat & Tails, a fundraiser for Paws in the City. Two weeks ago, I started taking dance lessons at Arthur Murray dance studios on LBJ. My instructor is Bailey Kenzington. When I discovered Helio Castroneves was in town to discuss racing, I wanted to discuss dancing. You know, pick up a fe...
I guess the folks at the Indianapolis 500 are trying to reach out to a new demo. But really, the best they can do is Josh Duhamel? The (and I have to admit it) hunky actor ...
Jeff Gordon had raced 16 times at Texas Motor Speedway, never having been to victory lane. 17 was his lucky number. Gordon held off Jimmie Johnson to win the Samsung 500. The win ends a 47 race winless streak for Gordon. He hadn't won a race since October 2007 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Gordon said to his crew following the race, "you guys got me a win in Texas, I love you!" Gordon had suggested to Texas Motor Speedway president...
Carl Edwards won both races at TMS last year. He's always strong in Texas. Jeff Gordon has never won at Texas Motor Speedway. But he has six top 5 finishes and eight top 10's. He is track President Eddie Gossage's pick for 2009. Gordon likes his chances too. He told Gossage to save him the silver cowboy hat trophy this year. Jimmie Johnson won the Dickies 500 here in 2007 and ...
It was 16 years ago today that former NASCAR Driver Alan Kulwicki lost his life on a short flight across Tennessee. His trade mark was the Polish Victory lap which he debuted after his first race win in Phoenix. He took the checkered flag and took a reverse lap. He went on to win the 1992 Winston Cup Championship. His Polish Victory lap was part of Denny Hamlin's celebration today. Hamlin raced Cowboys Tight End Jason Witten and member...
Its race week, what does Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage have up his sleeve this week? Who knows! "If I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise," Gossage said at Mobile 1 Lube Express in Grand Prairie. That's where he and NASCAR driver Sam Hornish Jr decided to perform oil changes and give tickets to the first 100 customers who purchased an oil change. Over the years, Gossage has become one of the best promotion guys in North ...
I like NASCAR. I really do. But I don't understand why anybody would buy a ticket for the race in Bristol. Cars drive faster on 635 than in Bristol. It's only half a mile around; 500 times they just keep leaning left. Kyle Busch leads 378 of the 500 laps and he wins again. It's the third straight week the Busch brothers have won. ...NASCAR is back for a new season and just like they always do they start with their best race and work their way backwards. The Daytona 500 is the Super Bowl of racing, then a long season, then the 10 race playoffs and then it's over. Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage explains it that it's that way because it has always been that way. It is a strange sport. ...Are you ready for Randy Moss Motorsports? As of today, it's an official NASCAR sanctioned team. Moss, the Wide Receiver of the New England Patriots, purchased a 50-percent stake in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series formally known as Morgan-Dollar Motorsports. The team will make its debut at the Built Ford Tough 225 at Kentucky Motor Speedway on July 19th. The Craftsman Truck Series is not as risky as the Nationwide Series and the Sp...
Sundays' Samsung 500...
That noise you heard early this morning coming from Tarrant County wasn't the cars on the track at the Texas Motor Speedway, but former Cowboys Wide Receiver Michael Irvin screaming for his life! Irvin got in a ...
If you insist on staying in the camp grounds at the Texas Motor Speedway, I found the perfect place. It's the home of Mike Bell, who is in charge of facilities security at the track. He lives in a house with a view of turn three. The house is owned by the track and is occupied by Bell so he can keep an eye on things. In the 90's, he worked for the Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys. "It's just like living in the country," says Bell...
Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage has noticed a new trend in NASCAR this year. Cheverolet, which dominated NASCAR last year, is winless so far this year. But his immediate concern is with the tire issue raised in Atlanta last weekend. Goodyear provided NASCAR teams with a compound that drove the drivers crazy. Did you see Tony Stewart's quote? He said this: "I can't say its surprising," he said. "Goodyear can't b...
