Cowboys: July 2008 ArchivesFrom Ted Madden in Oxnard: Just a little while ago, we finished shooting Dale's one-on-one interview with Cowboys tight end, and real good guy, Jason Witten. One thing he said during the interview that stuck out to me was this: "We have a lot of all-star names, but the team has to be first." It sounds pretty cliché, but earlier this week, when Hansen interviewed linebacker Bradie James, he said almost the exact same thing: tha... * Tomorrow the team will practice at 9:00 a.m. and again at 3:30 p.m.
* Head Coach Wade Phillips will conduct his daily media briefing at 2:45 p.m.
* There will be two practices on Saturday July August 2.
* NFL referees will join the Dallas Cowboys at training camp from July 31-August 2. The NFL referees are tentatively scheduled to give their presentation to the media on Friday Augus... It has finally happened ... and I honestly didn't think it would - Jessica Simpson has come to Oxnard to hang out with her quarterback boyfriend Tony Romo - celebrity gossip sites have the pictures of her and Romo going to dinner this week Romo wears that cap - shirt - and shoes every day...
With the departure of Terry Glenn, the Cowboys receiving corps looks a little different this year, even after not having Glenn all last season. By all accounts Patrick Crayton is the number 2 followed by a clump at 2- how ever many receivers they keep. That list includes Sam Hurd(my pick for #3), Miles Austin, Isaiah Stanback, and Danny Amendola. While driving home from working out this morning, Dola(as we called him at Texas Tech), w... * Tomorrow the team will practice at 2:30 p.m.

I just made a walk through the Cowboys compound here in Oxnard, Calif. to see how others experience of the California Quake went. Just about everyone I spoke with said they felt it and it seemed to be most players' first experience of an earthquake. Greg Ellis tells me that he was doing an interview with former Cowboys VP of Player Personnel , Gil Brandt, and his chair started shaking. Ellis said, "That was pretty cool... It was my f... Our hard-working crew in Oxnard, Calif. has sent back a collection of photos from Tuesday's practice session at Dallas Cowboys training camp:
With training camp only five days old with today being number six, I find myself(while part of the crew back in Dallas) longing to be in Ox-"nurd"(as Jerry Jones would say). Not only would the weather be a nice break from this 100 degree plus heat, but just to see some football and contact in person would be nice. But, that will not come for a couple of more weeks, so let's have some fun. Not that I am a known analyst, but everyone likes to th...
From all indications, everyone seems to be OK in Oxnard, Calif. after the Los Angeles earthquake (5.4 magnitude just east of LA). I was in our work... NOTE: All times PDT
OXNARD, Calif. (AP) -- Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman Coach Wade Phillips said Newman got tangled up with a receiver Phillips doesn't consider the injury serious. Newman, who went to his first Pro Bowl last season, left the

The Dallas Cowboys agreed to contract terms with first-round draft The team does not release the terms of player contracts. Both players are expected to report to camp Saturday, although it is unlikely they will be available for the morning practice. The Cowboys have practices scheduled for 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. in Oxnard, Calif. ... It is just another example of what a business this game is. Cowboys paid Terry Glenn a lot of money last year when he couldn't play because of a bad knee and they didn't want to do it again. Glenn says he was willing to sign a split contract, get more if he played... less if he didn't. But the Cowboys decided they didn't want to do that either. This is the reality of the NFL game with a salary cap. You can't pay good players... Just another day in paradise and now it really begins. Cowboys have their 1st practice in California today but not before the typical Cowboys opening cermonies. Los Lonely Boys sang the national anthem and there wasn't even a game. A couple thousand fans lined the fence waiting for their favorite players to show up. The 1st day was just helmets and shorts, there's very little hitting in any NFL camp anymore. But tha... WFAA crews in Oxnard, Calif. report the Dallas Cowboys have waived receiver Terry Glenn. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Friday the team planned to let him go after weeks of a dispute over whether the 34-year-old would sign an injury waiver. Glenn missed all but the final game of the regular season last year after two surgeries on his right knee. He didn't want to sign a waiver that would pay him just $500,000 of... From WFAA's Sean Hamilton in Oxnard: Terrell Owens was one of the last on one field, but still got a huge round of applause. And former Cowboys head coach Dave Campo, now the secondary coach, got a big cheer as did current head coach Wade Phillips. From WFAA's Sean Hamilton in Oxnard: Stephen Jones just walked off the field and says he is going to talk to the Cowboys unsigned rookies and their agents. Firstr-round picks Felix Jones (RB, Arkansas) and Mike Jenkins (CB, South Florida) did not travel with the team to California. Jones is optimistic they will be able to reach deals with both players soon. Update: Stephen Jones not commenting, says Jerry Jones is working on it and he was on the practice field about 4:30 central Friday. ESPN is reporting that Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terry Glenn has reached an injury settlement agreement with the team. What it means is that Glenn will be in training camp and that if he were to be injured the team would not owe him all of his $1.7 million contract. Previously, the te... Get your popcorn ready! We've got you covered for Cowboys Camp. A good place to start is this story on Jerry Jones and expectations. And of course constant updates here on our sports blog and specifically in the Cowboys s...
Hold your horses. It's not likely this latest reported signing is going to have an impact, heck he probably won't even make the team. But the Dallas Cowboys signed former Princeton quarterback Jeff Terrell. His best hope is to make the practice squad. He was in training camp with the Kansas City Chiefs last year before playing one game for the Austin Wranglers Arena team. The Cowboys have three other quarterbacks in ... No not Jerry Jones, Terrell Owens, Tony Romo, Adam Jones, Wade Phillips or even Leonard Davis... No... it's... Dale Hansen and his shirt with some first thoughts on the Dallas Cowboys 48th training camp. Dale's video blog on the start of Cowboys training camp. ...Wade Phillips: "We have a tougher schedule than the Giants this year... because we won the division." The Cowboys will play all the 1st place teams from the NFC because they won the division. "State of the Team" Press Conference hits 45 minute mark! Wade Phillips: "This isn't last year's team; this is this year's team." No kidding? Presser ends at 7:18 CDT. Opening Ceremonies start tomorrow at 3:30 CDT Wade Phillips just said "the Giants won it all" but was quick to point out that his team only lost 3 games in the regular season last year and the Giants went 4 and 4 their last 8 games. Jerry Jones said that HBO's reality show "Hard Knocks" will not affect the team's preparation at all. Jerry paid homage to Tex Schramm, saying he had a wonderful way of making his team popular and Jones has tried to learn from Tex. No new news on Terry Glenn. Jerry is still in talks with Glenn's agent and hopes something will be resolved soon. Stephen Jones says all the draft picks have been signed with the exception of 1st round picks Felix Jones (RB, Arkansas) and Mike Jenkins (CB, South Florida). Jerry Jones opened the State of the Team presser saying "its great to back in Oxnerd." Not sure why he calls it "Oxnerd" instead of "Oxnard." He also says the next 12 months will be the most exciting time in the history of the franchise. Really? 5 World Championships and the next 12 months will be the most exciting? The Cowboys have landed. Channel 8 Sports Reporter Ted Madden and I just made it back from Point Mugu Naval Air Station where the Cowboys team plane landed at approx 4:40 CDT. After signing autographs for some of the military and their families, they boarded busses and headed to the Residence Inn in Oxnard, CA. We are now gathered at the team hotel awaiting the "State of the Team" press conference to start. It was scheduled to start at 6:0... The Dallas Cowboys have landed at Point Mugu Naval Air Station in California, just south of Oxnard and the team's training site. The team touched down about an hour late due to a problem at DFW. We have lots of video before the Cowboys left DFW like this gem: Coach Wade Phillips kissing his wife goodbye. The Dallas Cowboys waited 44 minutes on the runway at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport before departing just after 2 p.m. The players, coaches and staff boarded their charter to Point Mugu Naval Air Station, just south of where they will train in Oxnard, Calif., shortly after 1 p.m. and sat on the runway from 1:18 p.m. to 2:02 p.m. A problem with some ground equipment prevented them from leaving on time. A team ... From George Riba at DFW Airport: Of course both have contract issues. Jones, the team's top draft pick out of Arkansas, has not yet signed with the team. And Glenn is in a dispute over an injury settlement with owner Jerry Jones. Also of note receiver Sam Hurd and safety... The Cowboys have signed second-round draft pick Martellus Bennett, a tight end from Texas A&M, fourth-round pick Tashard Choice, a running back from Georgia Tech and sixth-round pick Erik Walden, a linebacker from Middle Tennessee State. Still unsigned are first round picks Felix Jones, a running back from Arkansas, and Mike Jenkins, a cornerback from South Florida. Fifth-round pick Orlando Scandrick, a cornerback from Boise ... Here are some of the top storylines to keep an eye out for during the Dallas Cowboys training camp: 1. Adam Jones. Will the suspended corner be reinstated and will he start? 2. Roy Williams. Will the oft-criticized safety be cut as former personnel guru Gil Brandt suggested could happen? 3. Anthony Henry. What will happen to last year's starter at cornerback, will he move to safety to replace Williams or keep his starti... The wait is over. More than six months after the Cowboys playoff loss to the eventual Super Bowl champion New York Giants, the new season is about to begin. This afternoon the Cowboys fly to Point Mugu, Calif., just south of Oxnard where they will train until Aug 12. Much more to come. Gil Brandt is a legend for helping build the Dallas Cowboys from expansion team to America's Team. Now the 29 year Valley Ranch vet, who has made a post-Cowboys career of analyzing football, has a juicy tidbit that has been a bit buried. Brandt said this week that Roy Williams, the Cowboys' Pro Bowl safety, could be released if he doesn't play better during the team's training camp, which starts Friday in Oxnard, Calif. ...As the East Valley Tribune in Arizona puts it, "The Cardinals are trying to 'protect the nest.'" So the team is making fans who want to buy ticket to the Dallas Cowboys game Oct. 12 to also buy tickets to the Cardinals pre-season game Aug. 7 vs. New Orleans. "Our goal is to have as many Cardinal fans in the stadium as possible," the paper quoted a team spokesman as saying. If you remember before the Cardinals moved to t... Not that he needs to be defended, but Cowboys Head Coach Wade Phillips took the extra step to backup quarterback Tony Romo as a hard working, focused quarterback. Speaking to about 650-youth middle school and youth coaches, Phillips drew a nice response when he said Romo hasn't missed a workout in two years that he's been the head coach. "I don't know anything about Jessica," Phillips said, "So don't ask me anything questions... From the so strange it has to be true department, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens came to the rescue of a reporter who was hit by a car after the taping of the ESPY awards in LA last week. Read the reporter's account here. ...Finally, six months after the Dallas Cowboys 21-17 playoff loss to the New York Giants the Cowboys head to Oxnard, Calif. for training camp this week. It should be an eventful camp. The Cowboys, by pretty much all prognostications, are a favorite to represent the NFC in Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa February 1. That what you expect from a team coming off a 13-3 season with 13 returning Pro Bowlers and the addition of another Pro... With the trade for Adam Jones and the drafting of Mike Jenkins in the first round, Dallas Cowboys rookie fifth round pick Orlando Scandrick of Boise State could be overlooked. But the Cowboys appear to have made a commitment to the cornerback by signing him to a four-year, $1.85 million contract, according to dallascowboys.com, the team's official site. What's notable about the signing is that the Cowboys customarily don't si... Ken Hamlin will be a Dallas Cowboy for years to come and that is the right move by owner Jerry Jones. Aside for the obvious benefit of nullifying his off-season designation as the franchise player (which would give him a one-year contract at $4.4 million dollars, the average salary of the league's five highest-paid safeties), which he was not happy about, it provides stability at a position that has plagued the Cowboys since Darren Wo... The Cowboys head to Oxnard, Calif. in a week and a half. It's time to get your fix of Dallas Cowboys football. George Riba takes a look at what some of the players have been up to in the off-season. ...Stop me if you have heard this before. Two football players, one current and one former, are in very serious legal trouble today. Former Arkansas quarterback and current Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones was arrested in Fayetteville where police say he was inside a car cutting up cocaine with a credit card. (Read full sto...
Terrell Owens is holding his annual football camp at Duncanville High School, and a couple of his teammates were out there today -- Marion Barber and Sam Hurd. Hurd was great, working with kids to get off the line of scrimmage as they begin a pass route; he's a charming and easy-going guy. Barber is different; it's almost painful how shy he is. For a man who runs as violently and aggressively as he does on the football field, he is the opposit...
