College Football: September 2008 ArchivesI don't think any of us as sports fans could've seen this past weekend coming. If you had USC losing at Oregon State, Florida at home against Ole Miss, Georgia at home against 'Bama, Wisconsin at home vs. Michigan, and by the way the Cowboys losing as 11 point favorites, you need to move to Vegas. In college football, no matter which way you look at it, parity is here and its here to stay. What this weekend left us with is an Oklahoma... Four weeks into the season, the Big 12 is making their case for the best conference in College Football, and this week's matchups provide the final tune-ups before the teams start beating up on themselves next week. Here is the Week 5 schedule plus Power Rankings based on what I've seen so far this season. 1. Oklahoma- Sat. vs. TCU, 6 P.M. on FSN Before #1 USC's loss to unranked Oregon State Thursday night, the TCU-Oklahoma game Saturday was an important top-25 match up. Now it will decide who is #1. If #2 OU wins, they slide up to the top spot. But a upset by #24 TCU would significantly shake things up. The third ranked team, Georgia, has a tough game against Alabama and there are other SEC teams, Flordia and LSU, four and five in the rankings. <...TCU football coach Gary Patterson is getting his own top 25 ranked team ready to take on #2 Oklahoma Saturday and the always excited coach is his usual pumped up. Here are his thoughts this week: On his team entering the top 25 this week ... On senior tailback Aaron Brown ret... A day after dismantling SMU 48-7 the TCU Horned Frogs have moved into the top 25 in both major polls. The Frogs are 24 in the AP Poll and 23 in the Coaches' Poll. Of course it gets a bit harder for TCU now. The Frogs head to Norman to play 2nd-ranked OU Saturday. Mountain West Conference foes BYU and Utah are 11 and 17, respectfully in both polls. TCU hosts BYU Thursday, Oct. 16 and plays at Utah on another T... Senior running back Aaron Brown had 15 touches for 116 total yards and Joseph Turner had a pair of touchdowns to lead (4-0) TCU to a 48-7 victory over (1-3) SMU on Saturday night. With the constant reminder all week of 2005, TCU traveled to Dallas and took care of business retaining the Iron Skillet in the process. The Mustangs wrecked TCU's chances of a perfect season 3 years ago in Dallas. TCU ended up with an 11-1 record that year.<... We are 30 minutes away from the Battle for the Iron Skillet. The (3-0) TCU Horned Frogs are visiting Gerald J. Ford Stadium to take on the (1-2) SMU Mustangs. I am in the press box and fielding questions from the World Wide Web. TCU senior running back Aaron Brown, who missed the first three games of the season, has been cleared to play tonight. Brown along with freshman safety Sir Demarco Bledsoe have been sitting out for vio... Andy Dalton had 145 yards passing and 91 yards on the ground to lead the TCU Horned Frogs (3-0) to a 31-14 victory over Stanford (1-2) on Saturday afternoon. The game was moved up six hours from the original start time due to Hurricane Ike. Both teams battled rainy and windy conditions the whole afternoon, but it didn't stop either from trying to sling the ball around. Dalton and Stanford quarterback Tavi Pritchard combined for 57 atte... The first half is in the books at Amon G. Carter stadium and the TCU Horned Frogs are tied up with Stanford, 14-14. TCU jumped out to an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but two costly mistakes came back to bite the Frogs in the second quarter. Stanford's Doug Baldwin (yes the same Baldwin that was mentioned in the last post) scored on a 38-yard touchdown reverse after a 15-yard personal foul penalty by the Frogs. ...For the second consecutive week, I am at Amon G. Carter stadium, getting ready for Stanford vs. TCU. With the threat of Hurricane Ike affecting a night game, TCU moved up today's contest to a noon start. The Frogs will have plenty of bulletin board material going into this afternoon. Some of Stanford's players were quoted to say that they couldn't compare the two teams because TCU doesn't play in a real conference. "I... As Hurricane Ike approaches, weekend football games are adjusting their times and dates to avoid the bad weather. The Texas Longhorns and Arkansas Razorbacks game in Austin, which was scheduled for Saturday, has been postponed and rescheduled for Sept. 27. The Saturday TCU game against Stanford has been changed from 6 p.m. to noon in Fort Worth. The Washington State-Baylor football game has been moved up to Friday nig... From TCU: Due to the possible effects of Hurricane Ike on the Dallas/Fort Worth area this weekend, the kickoff time for Saturday's TCU home football game with Stanford has been changed from 6 p.m. to noon at Amon G. Carter Stadium. The contest will be televised nationally on The Mtn. (DIRECTV Channel 616) as well as being heard on the TCU ISP Sports Network at 103.3 ESPN, 88.7 KTCU and GoFrogs.com (Yahoo). With the noon...
The 67 points was one off the school record set in 1930's against Austin College. T... We are about five minutes away from kickoff at Amon G. Carter stadium, where the TCU Horned Frogs will take on the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks. TCU made a major statement in the Mountain West Conference race last week with an opening day 26-3 win over New Mexico. The Frogs will be without the services of senior tailback Aaron Brown. The 2007 Pre-Season Mountain West Conference Player of the Year will miss his second straight... The Todd Dodge era at North Texas has entered its second year, but don't look for a Sun Belt Conference Championship just yet. One of the reasons is because Dodge is still bringing in his players who are learning his system. And his son, Riley, is expected to be on the red shirt list all season, so wait to see him in action next year. "Five of our guys are either true freshman, red shirt freshman or sophomores," Dodge told me this ... If you can't make it to El Paso for the UT-UTEP football game Saturday you can watch the game on the big screen outside the AAC: American Airlines Center announced today that a FREE Watching Party will be held this Saturday, Sept. 7, for the University of Texas Longhorns football game at UTEP. This Watching Party is expected to be the largest one in the Metroplex, taking place at AT&T Plaza, outside the south end of American Airlines C... As I flew back to Dallas Monday I saw an interesting article in the in-flight magazine. It cited a recent study that says football players can get shorter during games. The point of the article is that all the pounding compresses players spines. Read more from Spirit Magazine. ... |
