Eagles offense: setting it up to "take a shot"

I was privy to an interesting conversation between veteran Cowboys safety Gerald Sensabaugh and 2nd year cornerback Orlando Scandrick today in the locker room. The two were talking about how to defend the Eagles passing game. I'm no NFL coach, but I was able to glean this: when playing defense against McNabb, most of the time look for the ball to get there on a line. The two were talking about how to defend when one's back is to the quarterback. Sensabugh's advice: give a quick look back, or play the receiver's hands and when they go up and the ball arrives try to rake the ball out.

The other interesting tidbit from Sensabaugh - the Eagles offense likes setting it up to "take a shot." Yeah, yeah, you gotta slow down Westbrook and McCoy in the run game, and there will be a bunch of hitch routes, and "West Coast" stuff underneath. But now more than ever, its window dressing for McNabb to try and take advantage of speed burners DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin on the outside.

So, without coming right out and telling me, expect Sensabuagh and fellow safety Ken Hamlin to err on the side of caution. Make McNabb try and dink and dunk his way down the field, and let's see what happens when he has to be patient. They Eagles have thrived on the big play this season with DeSean Jackson leading the way - he's got 6 plays of 50+ yards for TD's so far this season, 5 of them coming from the line of scrimmage. Jackson's already shown us he can get deep on the Cowboys - but that defense didn't have Sensabaugh back there. He'll need to be a difference -maker for the Cowboys to have a chance in this one.
