Once again the college football polls have shown how big of a joke they have become. The mighty USC Trojans have jumped up to No. 4 in both the AP and the USA Today Coaches Poll. With one loss, Pete Carroll and crew are ranked ahead of TCU, Boise State, Cincinnati, and Iowa, who all have no losses. Now I wouldn't have a problem with this if USC had lost to someone decent, but they didn't. I'm tired of the polls being a popularity contest with the cool schools getting the benefit of the doubt. Can we please just go by what the teams have done on the field this season? TCU should be the 4th ranked team in the country. They have two ACC wins (the Clemson winning is looking better and better) and beat BYU on the road. They are undefeated and don't let schools like Washington sneak up on them. Harvey... really??? I understand the beef with USC but, I'm pretty sure Bama would make Texas look pedistrian.
And really you have TCU over your home team(Iowa), I'm sad you've become a TCU homer over an Iowa homer.
E-Nels: Seriously? Bama would make Texas look pedistrian? How do you figure? Is your arguement the same tired one: Texas hasn't played anyone? Well, Texas beat OU (yes, they had 2 losses, but both teams in top 20 and by a combined loss of TWO points). Texas beat Texas Tech (yes, I realize they must have thought the game Saturday was in Kyle field, BUT they DID beat Nebraska, IN Lincoln). Texas blew out UTEP (yes, it's UTEP...a Miners team that beat Houston). Who have the Tide played? A mediocre Virginia Tech team (hey, SOMEONE has to win the ACC) in the Georgia Dome (people claim this to be a neutral field, but this is as neutral as the Longhorns playing in the Sugar Bowl). A couple of Sun Belt teams, a serverly over-rated Ole Miss team, an up-and-coming-but-not-quite-there-yet Arkansas team (at home). From there, a struggle against Kentucky and TENNESSEE??? Seriously? The Bama tide is tired and, quite frankly, stupid. Get over it!
E-Nels: Completely agree. Hr. Harvey makes a good argument in his article about the 'pretty' teams getting a default high ranking when there are other lesser known teams ou there that deserve a higher ranking. I completely agree about USC being overrated (We will find out this weekend when they travel to Eugene). But his logic goes out the window with his rankings and putting Texas #1. Please tell me who they have beaten? Their big win was against a #22 OU team with out half of their best offensive players...and they barely won. There is a reason the BCS computers do not like them and Sagarin has them at #10. Bama is 4-0 against top 30 teams and Florida is 3-0...UT is 1-0. Heck...by his argument...TCU probably (and maybe Cincy or Boise St) should be ranked them. Good argument for the lesser teams...but his logic fell through the cracks and his homerism shined through.
John, thank you for throwing out the Sagarin rankings. I had not seen those yet.
Let me clear one thing up, I'm definitely not a Texas fan. Never have been, never will.
Maybe your right, maybe Texas doesn't deserve that No. 1 spot.
I'm just really tired of seeing Florida and Alabama barely beat questionable teams. It might just be the SEC. Defense definitely rules. I just think the No.1 team in the nation should be able to beat a 3-5 Mississippi State by more than then they did. Or a No. 2 Alabama not need a field goal block against 3-4 Tennessee.
Thanks for reading the blog. I appreciate it.
i dont know who is the geek that says whos ranked where but they are always against texas usc ranked above all those unbeaten teams i believe after this weeks performance by florida and alabama texas should be #1
