TCU jumpes to #10

TCU coach Gary Patterson is probably feeling pretty good today. His team is off to a 3-0 start, the program collected $1 million dollars for traveling to Clemson yesterday, and the coaches rewarded the Horned Frogs for beating the Tigers on the road with a No. 10 ranking in the newest USA Today Coaches' Poll.

TCU jumped up four spots and are the second highest ranked non-BCS team after No. 5 Boise State. In the AP Poll, they went from No. 15 to No. 11.

"I think this will go a long way for our confidence," Patterson told the Fort Worth Star Telegram. "To go and win on the road two out of the first three weeks of the season, especially going to the East Coast and a very tough ACC conference."

According to a press release from Mark Cohen, TCU Sports Information Director, since 2002, TCU is 13-3 in their last 16 games against teams from conferences with automatic BCS bids. Hopefully this is a stat that is in the back of the voting coaches' mind. The Frogs would have had a chance to make a BCS bowl game last year with one loss, this year, it would not be as likely.

"I've never been one to talk about the BCS," Patterson stated at his news conference last week. "When people wanted to talk about the BCS at the beginning of the season, I said my job is just to win ballgames. Any coaches or players that let themselves think about the BCS are making a mistake. There are 12 games we've got to play and a lot of tough competition we've got to play."

The Frogs will host a much improved (2-1) SMU team this week under the tutelage of June Jones.
