I have always had the dream of being a GM for a professional sports franchise. What true sports fan hasn't? That said, I would have made a pretty good move this last spring. In March, I urged in a blog that the Rangers should try to puruse Pedro Martinez. At the time I suggested Texas take a chance on the future Hall of Famer and then trade him for prospects at the It took almost half of the season, but finally a team gave Pedro a shot. He has rewarded the Phillies with a 5-1 record and a 3.31 ERA. Not bad numbers for a 37-year old in his 17th season. Texas' late slump has been largely due to the fact that they look like a Triple A team at the plate, but pitchers Derek Holland and Kevin Millwood have looked horrible. Holland is a special talent and will be a major factor in the Rangers team success in the future, but after two or three bad outings, I would have put in back in the bullpen for Martinez. Pedro was only asking for five million dollars at the beginning of the season, he signed for one million. Seems like a chance Texas should have taken. |
