Did the Rangers know something we didn't?

Last spring, Ranger fans were quick to want Texas to lock-up outfielder Josh Hamilton to a long term contract. Jon Daniels once again took heat for his job as GM. Did he and the Rangers know something we didn't?

Hamilton is batting only .270 in 87 games with 10 homeruns. His constant in and out of the lineup has more than likely irritated skipper Ron Washington.

Did management see that he was breaking down? Did they think his production would drop off after a career year? Whatever the reason, I'm glad that Texas didn't pull the trigger right away. They could have invested a lot of money in a player that might never be the same. josh-hamilton.jpg

I hope Texas keeps Hamilton. I just don't want to see them overpay for him. It's pretty obvious that it would be in the best interests for Hamilton to postpone long-term contract discussions for at least another year. This will give him a chance to get healthy and prove last season was not a fluke.

Hamilton told a group of writers yesterday, including the Associated Press, that he might not see the field again this season.

"We're going to see if we can get my glute to calm down a little bit because I don't want to end up right back where I was," Hamilton said. "The shots did their job as far as calming it down, but baseball activity wise is still giving me a little, not pain, but tightness. But the tightness will lead to pain if I continue."
