GA Moore continues to win

12:20 PM Wed, Sep 30, 2009 |
Ted Madden

Texas' all-time winningest high school football coach, G.A. Moore, returned from a 4-year retirement to coach at Aubrey this season, and the results have been immediate. After a 5-5 season in 2008, the Chaparrels are 4-0, with four shutouts.

We did a story on Coach Moore before their first game, and you can watch it again here. Moore spent the bulk of ...

A win is a win - isn't it?

6:52 PM Tue, Sep 29, 2009 |
Dale Hansen

So this is the standard now ... a cowboys win isn't good enough anymore ------------??? We have apparently come a long way

The cowboys beating Carolina 21 - 7 and needing a Terence Newman interception to get the final 7 isn't the prettiest of wins ... not the way you would hope the cowboys can play .... but the reality of a 16 game season is that every team will play some bad games - but the good teams find a wa...

Cowboys RB Felix Jones has pcl injury

5:43 PM Tue, Sep 29, 2009 |
George Riba

We found out today what kind of injury Cowboys Running Back Felix Jones suffered Monday night. "He sprained his PCL and it's yet to be determined how long or if he'll be out very long," says Cowboys Head Coach Wade Phillips.

It doesn't sound like Phillips is too worried about his injury, but he really doesn't know yet. "Yeah, it could have been worse. I could have said he's out, or he's going to be out 2-to-4 or 6-to-10, or whatever,"...

Why Marion Barber wasn't seen on the sideline monday night

5:23 PM Tue, Sep 29, 2009 |
George Riba

I heard a lot of talk on the way in to work today, questioning Cowboys Running Back Marion Barber and why he wasn't on the sidelines during Monday night's game. Apparently there was a good a reason.

Head Coach Wade Phillips said he didn't want his running back standing on a bad leg that long. "We don't want him standing up four hours when you've got a quad injury," Phillips said. "I don't think that would have helped him either."

Romo's better at protecting the ball .... really

5:04 PM Tue, Sep 29, 2009 |
Ted Madden

During his press conference following Dallas' 21-7 win over Carolina, Tony Romo was talking about avoiding turnovers. Here's the transcript:

"And I thought about this the other day, and I know we don't include pre-season games in anything we talk about, but we do as players. We had three preseason games and we had one turnover. We've played 3 regular season games, and -- (here, he caught himself mis-speaking a bit; Romo meant that he -...

Wade's podium press conference quotes

12:57 AM Tue, Sep 29, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

I just got this email from the Cowboys. I was just about to type it all out when I got it.

Overall Game
"Alright I was proud of our team obviously to come out the second half after things weren't going good although I thought we had a chance certainly to be up at the half and missed a field goal and we had a chance for some other opportunities and they didn't really move the ball too well before the end o...

Ratliff collects Cowboys first sack

9:30 PM Mon, Sep 28, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

It took the Cowboys this time ten and a half quarters, but now they have their first sack of the season. Jay Ratliff bought down Jake Delhomme.

The Cowboys were the last team to record a sack this season. Midway through the 3rd quarter, Cowboys are down 7-3.

Felix Jones tweaks his left leg

9:21 PM Mon, Sep 28, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

After his 40 yard run down the sidelines, Felix Jones was shaken up on the play and went to the sidelines. The whole Cowboys medical staff is working on Jones. It appears from our view up high that they are working on his left knee. More to come later!

Cowboys trail at half, 7-0

9:07 PM Mon, Sep 28, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

It wasn't the offensive showing that Tony Romo wanted to have. Coming under fire all week for his play last week, the quarterback could not lead a scoring drive for Dallas in the first half. The Panthers go into the break with a 7-0 lead.

Romo was constantly dealing with pressure in his face, as the line played less than stellar in the first half.

The defense did look good at times, but reverted to what we had seen in ...

Cowboys get their first forced turnover

8:32 PM Mon, Sep 28, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

It took nine and a half quarters, but the Cowboys defense finally forced a turnover. On 1st down and 10 from the 42-yard line, Jake Delhomme attempted to go deep on the sideline. Mike Jenkins didn't like being picked on. The 2nd year player went up and caught the interception over Muhsin Muhammad.

The Cowboys defense was the last team in the league to force a turnover. They are still looking for their first sack of the season.

It's official: Cowboys have the world's largest HDTV

7:18 PM Mon, Sep 28, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

Tonight, Jerry Jones finally has proof that his video board is the biggest in the world. The Cowboys and Jones just wrapped up a pre-game ceremony with Guinness World Records representatives, officially giving the Cowboys stadium the largest HDTV in the world.

Quite possibly the most controversial television in the world, the two LED video boards are 160 feet wide and 72 feet tall. It's the equivalent of 3,200 52-inch televisions.

No more Twitter for Tech players, still okay for the Mavs

6:06 PM Mon, Sep 28, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

From now on, it will be a 15-yard penalty for Texas Tech players that use Twitter. Odd and often misunderstood Texas Tech Coach Mike Leach has put a ban on his players using Twitter. This comes days after the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported that linebacker Marlon Williams asked on his Twitter account why he was still in a meeting room when "the head coach can't even be on time." Williams Twitter page is no longer available.

JerryWorld will sport a closed roof tonight

4:23 PM Mon, Sep 28, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

Jerry Jones has informed the media that the roof will be closed tonight against the Carolina Panthers.

I'm wondering if this is just a way to get the stadium in the news or if there is an actual reason why. There is no rain being foretasted tonight.

I do know one thing, the stadium will seem a lot louder for Carolina with the roof closed compared to the roof being open.

Marlon Byrd namd AL Player of the Week

4:19 PM Mon, Sep 28, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

Marlon Byrd has been named AL Player of the Week. Byrd had a week to remember batting .320 with two doubles, seven runs scored, three homers and 11 RBIs. The soon to be free agent was definitely making a push for more money this offseason.

"Marlon got us going and everybody just started to swing the bat after that," manager Ron Washington told T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com. "Once again you see how important Marlon is and why we want...

TCU's Dalton named co-Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week

10:28 AM Mon, Sep 28, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

In a game that meant more to the program than any other this season to date, TCU quarterback Andy Dalton was special. The junior, who is on the Manning Watch list, went 17-of-26 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions in the Horned Frogs victory against Clemson. He also added a team-best 86 yards rushing on a career-high 19 attempts. The performance earned him co-Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor...

I guess Ozzie Guillen is not a fan of the NFL?

I wonder how the Rangers would respond to this type of coach? I wonder if the Rangers are watching football right now after losing a 5-0 lead today to Tampa Bay?

The college football polls are messed up again

4:44 PM Sun, Sep 27, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

Can I get an Amen or at least an email if you think the college football polls are a joke?

There are a lot of things that bother me in sports: the Yankees and Red Sox's payroll, the lost art of teamwork in the NBA, and how the NFL is more about fantasy than your favorite team. What I'm writing about today, trumps all of those.

I'm convinced that about 95% of the coaches that vote in the polls let their kids or grandkids fill t...

TCU jumpes to #10

4:17 PM Sun, Sep 27, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

TCU coach Gary Patterson is probably feeling pretty good today. His team is off to a 3-0 start, the program collected $1 million dollars for traveling to Clemson yesterday, and the coaches rewarded the Horned Frogs for beating the Tigers on the road with a No. 10 ranking in the newest USA Today Coaches' Poll.

TCU jumped up four spots and are the second highest ranked non-BCS team after No. 5 Boise State. In the AP Poll, they went from...

Hamilton returns tonight against the Rays

8:22 PM Fri, Sep 25, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

It took a few more games than he would have probably liked, but Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton returned to the lineup tonight against the Tampa Bay Rays. The three year veteran has missed 19 games with a pinched nerve in his back.

"I'm very happy to be back out there," Hamilton told the Associated Press. "Obviously, it has been frustrating. At the same time, it ain't like I got hurt from not being in shape, or by swinging the bat, o...

TCU visits ACC opponent for the second time this season

4:13 PM Fri, Sep 25, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

With BYU and Utah both losing last weekend, the hopes for a Mountain West conference BCS bowl bid could very well be left in the hands of TCU. The Horned Frogs, who are currently ranked 14th in the country, travel to South Carolina this weekend to take on the Clemson Tigers.

"They are a very fast team and a big ACC school. They have some great players and one of the best running backs in the nation. Defensively, we have to be on guard...

ESPN reports Cowboys might rest Barber

1:49 PM Fri, Sep 25, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

According to Matt Mosley of ESPN.com, the Cowboy are "leaning towards" keeping Marion Barber out of Monday night's game against the Carolina Panthers. Barber suffered a quad injury during Sunday night's game with the Giants.

On Thursday, Barber had limited participation in practice. On Friday morning, Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said that Barber would be limited once ag...

Shawn Marion: "I'm a better basketball player than I was before"

4:16 PM Thu, Sep 24, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

Shawn Marion's production has dropped over the last few years. While he is getting older, the unfamiliarity in moving to two new cities could be partly the reason why his numbers are down. Could a stint in Dallas, where his status is not in limbo, be what Marion needs to get back to the player he was?

"I was used to Phoenix for eight and a half years. I was used to one thing. The city, the environment, the fans, changing is not someth...

Romo is a no show for now

3:34 PM Thu, Sep 24, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

If you are here look for some riveting thing that Tony Romo said, you won't find it. That is because the Cowboys quarterback didn't talk to the media today like he was supposed to.

Romo is slated to grace us with his presence on either Wednesdays or Thursdays.Because this is a Monday night football week, tomorrow is really a Thursday for the players.

I'm curious to see if Romo talks to the media tomorrow. If not, I have a fee...

Cowboys/Panthers Accuscore Report

2:53 PM Thu, Sep 24, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

CAROLINA @ DALLAS

The Cowboys are better off being a run first offense, even if Marion Barber is hurt in Week 3. In simulations where Tony Romo has over 250 passing yards the Cowboys actually win 62 percent, less than they do when he has under 250 yards. Dallas leads the league with 184 rushing yards per game. For the Panthers to win they need to hold the Cowboys to under 120 rushing yards. In these simulations, the Panthers...

I just received this press release from the Cowboys. It comes just in time for the off-season, when the league reviews the video board rule.

I wonder what his vote on the issue will be?

Another stadium issue

5:28 PM Wed, Sep 23, 2009 |
Ted Madden

This may be old news, but I just heard about it last night. A friend of mine went to the Cowboys-Giants game Sunday night; he and his wife had tickets in the end zone, about two rows in front of the Party Pass section.

As you know, the Cowboys sold way too many of the standing-room-only tickets, which caused problems when customers who paid for seats were not allowed into the stadium itself. His problem was that the Party Pass area ri...

Southlake's Tre Newton gets starting spot for Longhorns

1:48 PM Tue, Sep 22, 2009 |
George Riba

Texas running back Tre Newton has earned the right to start in Saturday's game against UT-El Paso.

Newton, from Southlake Carroll High School in North Texas and the son of former Cowboys offensive lineman Nate Newton, had a career high 20-carries for 88-yards against Texas Tech Saturday night.

Texas Head Coach Mack Brown made the decision after Newton provided a spark for the Longhorns Saturday night. He carried the ball 18-ti...

Millwood guarantees himself $12 million for 2010

10:25 PM Mon, Sep 21, 2009 |
Ted Madden

Whether it's the incentive to reach the clause in his contract, or the fact that he hasn't pitched since September 12th, Kevin Millwood is dealing tonight.

At this point, 10:39 pm Monday night, Millwood has pitched 5 shutout innings, and the Rangers lead 6-0. That gives Millwood more than 180 innings pitched for the season, which kicks in an incentive that will pay him $12 million next year. There had been speculation that the cash-str...

Barber's tests are still pending

3:55 PM Mon, Sep 21, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

Marion Barber took a MRI today to see the extent of a quad injury he suffered in the 4th quarter last night against the Giants. As of Coach Phillips' press conference early this afternoon, the results of the MRI were still pending.

"A quad injury, I guess I'll call it an injury right now because we don't know the extent of it,'' Phillips said at his Monday press conference. "We'll have to wait and see on that.''

Barber's stat ...

Steve Young: "He can't be the reason why they lose"

3:22 PM Mon, Sep 21, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

In a WFAA.com exclusive 1-on-1 interview today, Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young had some choice things to say about Tony Romo's debut in the new Cowboys stadium:

"Brett Favre was his hero and I think he is almost too serious about that. He is a smart player that is doing the work. To me, it's sort of like having a nice Mercedes Benz. You go out in the

SUNDAY NIGHT THOUGHTS (Joe Avezzano's Thoughts)

1:06 PM Mon, Sep 21, 2009 |

Here are coach's thoughts from the game yesterday:

I was at the game and had these observations as I think back on this historic evening:

1. Jerry Jones is truly the Barnum and Bailly " Greatest Show on Earth " man of this sports generation. Very few people could even imagine creating such an entertainment palace.

2. Referee Mike Carey wanted the coin tossed by Pres...

Romo accepts blame for loss

9:18 AM Mon, Sep 21, 2009 |
Arnold Payne

Following their embarrassing 33-31 mistake riddled loss to the New York Giants; Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Tony Romo says that he personally let him teammates down in his worst performance since taking over as the teams starting quarterback.

In his post-game press conference Romo sat, often seemingly near tears, and took personal ownership for the team's loss. "The team played some really good football and obviously my mistakes put us ...

Cowboys secondary gets torched

11:26 PM Sun, Sep 20, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

I didn't realize that the Cowboys were lining up against Jerry Rice and Art Monk tonight. It might as well have been the way the Cowboys played against Mario Manningham and Steve Smith tonight.

The two combined for twenty catches, 284 yards, and two touchdowns. Wade Phillips said after the game, "we didn't guard number 12 at all." I don't know if he even knew Steve Smith's name? Why should he, nobody else in the league does?

Giants lead 20-17 af halftime

9:06 PM Sun, Sep 20, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

Here we were all worried about the Giants rushing attack. The Cowboys secondary must not have gotten the memo that the Giants do pass every once in a while as well.

At halftime, the Giants have only rushed 12 times for 12 yards. Eli Manning and his no-name receivers, that is a different story. Manning has gone 11/18 for 149 yards and a touchdown. Steve Smith and Mario Manningham both have five catches. Smith has 81 yards while Manning...

Cowboys lose their momentum late 1st

8:07 PM Sun, Sep 20, 2009 |

Marion Barber scores a touchdown, the defense gets a three play stop, and Tony Romo decides to throw an interception for a touchdown. Giants take the lead 10-7.

Romo was rushed at the line to snap the ball after calling an audible and made a horrible throw. Rookie cornerback Bruce Johnson was the one to take it to the house.

As I'm typing this blog, Felix Jones just fumbled the kick return giving the Giants great field posi...

Barber gets the regular season touchdown

7:57 PM Sun, Sep 20, 2009 |

Marion Barber made history tonight. The Cowboy running back became the first player to score a regular season touchdown at the new Cowboys stadium. Barber had gotten the Cowboys near the red zone with a 27-yard run prior in the drive.

Dallas leads 7-3 over the Giants midway through the 1st. Tony Romo has looked sharp, going 5/6 for 30-yards.

The Cowboys defense has been strong, shutting down the run. Brandon Jacobs has three...

If only Jon Daniels would have read my blog in March

I have always had the dream of being a GM for a professional sports franchise. What true sports fan hasn't? That said, I would have made a pretty good move this last spring.

In March, I urged in a blog that the Rangers should try to puruse Pedro Martinez. At the time I suggested Texas take a chance on the future Hall of Famer and then trade him for prospect...

With BYU's loss to Florida State yesterday, we can finally focus on the real non-BCS teams that have a shot at crashing the partying in 2009.

Cowboys/Giants Accuscore Report

NEW YORK @ DALLAS

For the Giants to win they need to run the ball well. When Brandon Jacobs has at least 50 rushing yards the Giants go from winning 47 to 56 percent. When Jacobs is held under 75 the Giants win jus 35 percent. The Cowboys need a solid running game, but more importantly they need to protect Tony Romo. When Romo is sacked 4 or more times the Cowboys have just a 34 percent chance. When Romo is sacked no more than 2 ti...

Did the Rangers know something we didn't?

4:41 PM Fri, Sep 18, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

Last spring, Ranger fans were quick to want Texas to lock-up outfielder Josh Hamilton to a long term contract. Jon Daniels once again took heat for his job as GM. Did he and the Rangers know something we didn't?

Hamilton is batting only .270 in 87 games with 10 homeruns. His constant in and out of the lineup has more than likely irritated skipper Ron Washington.

Did management see that he was breaking down? Did they think his...

NFL injury update

Ok ... this is probably more of a fantasy football update. LaDainian Tomlinson has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Baltimore. In the opener against Oakland, Tomlinson rushed 13 times for 55 yards - he was injured in the first quarter but played off and on the rest of the game.

It's been a tough year and a half for Vince Young. The former Longhorn lost his starting spot for the Titans, his family called the police after Young went missing for several hours while depressed, and he is involved in a lawsuit against former Major League baseball player Enos Cabell dealing with the trademark of his nickname.

On Tuesday morning, he might have gotten the little spark he needs to turn it all around.

George Riba and I went out to the new stadium, where Director of Corperate Communcations Brett Daniels gave us a mini-tour. Some of the highlights ....

The Cowboys plan to have the roof open, and the huge "doors" behind either end zone will be open as well. Daniels described those doors like ones you'd see at an airplane hanger, and they are huge. So with the roof open and the doors on both ends open, it should feel like an outdoor gam...

QB Tony Romo says his ankle is fine

Cowboys Quarterback Tony Romo didn't look like he was having any problems with his sprained right ankle in practice today. "We'll see when I get out there but I'm sure I'll be fine," said Romo. "I was dropping back earlier and it felt good, so we'll be able to do everything."

Romo had his ankle taped for practice, but that was the only visible sign that he had sustained an injury. "It'll be a hundred percent for sure," he said.

Bad weather threat forces Cowboys indoors

The threat of bad weather forced the Cowboys indoors today. They're working out at Southlake Carroll's indoor complex. It's the first time since leaving training camp the Cowboys have had to use an indoor facility. Of course, who could forget the facility at Valley Ranch

Cowboys need to stop the run

That seems pretty obvious, doesn't it?

A few numbers to consider, going into Sunday night's game against the NY Giants, a that loves to run:

*Tampa Bay rushed for 174 yards vs. Dallas, averaging 5.6 yards per attempt.

*New York rushed for 103 yards against Washington, averaging 3.3 yards per attempt.

Tampa Bay has one of the top backfields in the NFL (along with teams like Dallas and Tennessee). Derrick Ward and...

David Buehler makes impact in NFL debut

6:20 PM Mon, Sep 14, 2009 |

Kickoff specialist David Buehler had quite an NFL debut on Sunday. Buehler had three touchbacks. That doesn't sound a like a big deal, but considering the Cowboys had none last season and only four in 2007, it's huge

"You know it was a good way to start that way. Special teams started pretty strong so it was good to start out that way and we'll try to keep it rolling for the next game to come," says Buehler.

Buehler kicked off ...

GOOD START (Joe Avezzano's Thoughts)

4:46 PM Mon, Sep 14, 2009 |

Here are coach's thoughts from the game yesterday:

The Cowboys accomplished what they set out to do on Sunday in Tampa Bay, and that was to leave there 1-0. They won the game 34-21 and will have a good plane ride home. Was it a perfect game? No! Were there some things to be happy about? Yes! Will they have to execute some aspects of the game better against a better opponent? Yes!

I thought there were five plays or situa...

Cowboys running backs get 22 carries

6:04 PM Sun, Sep 13, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

The Cowboys three-headed monster backfield carried the ball 22 times, but was it enough? In this game, yes, in the future, probably not.

The Bucs made it a point to stop the run, and their secondary suffered for it. But, what happens next week when the Cowboys play the Giants? Their defense is good enough to stop both. Will Jason Garrett have the will power to pound the football?

Fans have been calling for Marion Barber to ...

Patrick Crayton expects the big play questions to not go away

4:58 PM Sun, Sep 13, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

Three touchdown plays: 42-yards, 66-yards, and 80-yards, long enough for you?

Tony Romo and the Cowboys wide receivers must have been tired of being asked whether they could replace Terrell Owens' big play ability, because the Cowboys scores came in big ways.

Asked after the game if we should expect to see 80-yard touchdown catches every week from Cowboys receivers, Patrick Crayton responded, "we'll see."

What is Romo's grade?

3:48 PM Sun, Sep 13, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

Tony Romo had a career day, a statement game that should end big play questions from the media for at least a couple weeks. But, were you happy with his first performance?

He didn't throw an interception or fumble the ball, but he still took some big risks. Ducking from pressure, he was almost picked off by Aqib Talib on the sidelines. His end zone throw to Martellus Bennett in the first half was way off the mark, he threw a ball up...

Cowboys defense looks suspect

How concerned are you with the Cowboys defense after week one? After going back and looking at the numbers a little harder, things definitely need to improve.

According to the NFL - the Cowboys rule on opening day. And they should improve that record against a Tampa Bay team that's re-building.

The DALLAS COWBOYS own a 33-15-1 (.688) record on Kickoff Weekend, the top mark in the NFL, including wins in a record 17 consecutive openers from 1965-81. The Cowboys have the league's best record in road openers at 31-18 (.633). In Week 2, Dallas will host the New York Giants on Sunday night in ...

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has been fined a nice chunk of change for not abiding by a gag order on labor relations that commissioner Roger Goodell handed down to team ownership.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen has more on the story here.

What you need to know about the labor deal in a nuthsell: if a new agreement isn't reached by next March, 2010 will be an uncapped year and 2011 will be in ...

Reports: Jerry Jones hit with a $100,000 fine from the league

9:46 AM Sun, Sep 13, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was fined $100,000 yesterday by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Supposedly he violated a gag order on labor issues last week when he stated that revenue sharing is "on its way out"

If I hear any more on this, I will pass it along later today.

The preseason is over and the NFL is finally here. The Cowboys head to Florida this weekend for a match-up with the new look Tampa Bay Bucaneers.

Considered by many a Super Bowl favorite the previous two years, Dallas is off the radar this year, and will look to jump out to a fast start in their first five games.

We emailed St. Petersburg Times Bucs Blogger Rick Stroud to learn more about what we should expect this weekend fr...

The Cowboys voted their official captains for the 2009 season. Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Bradie James and DeMarcus Ware will be the guys headed out for the coin flip.

Coach Wade Phillips also said there would be 5th captain throughout the season that would rotate. It will represent a special teams player.
Romo, Witten, and James were captains last season, with Ware being the only new addition.

After a series sweep against the Cleveland Indians, the Texas Rangers have pulled two games behind the Red Sox for the wild card lead.

Tomorrow starts a crucial nine game home stand that the Rangers need to take advantage of. With the Angels coming into town for three next week, Texas can even still think about the A.L. West crown.

The first opponent on their home stand is the Seattle Mariners. Quietly they are four ga...

SMU won their first opener since 2000 on Saturday night with a win against Stephen F. Austin.

Shawnbrey McNeal, a day after hearing from the NCAA that he was eligible to play in 2009, rushed for over 150 yards on 19 carries.

This week, SMU will travel to UAB for an early C-USA battle with the Blazers.

We went 1-on-1 with Birmingham News UAB beat writer Steve Irvine, to see how the Blazers are looking.

Life is good ... the NFL is back

11:55 AM Wed, Sep 09, 2009 |
Ted Madden

I love the NFL.

It begins again Thursday night with the Steelers-Titans game (what a great opener). Let's talk a little about the league as we head into the 2009 season.

First of all, after looking at all the teams and studying for my fantasy football draft and reading the Sports Illustrated preview issue and doing other assorted NFL reading, I've decided that the following teams will suck: Cleveland, Denver, Detroit, Oakland....

Ohio State's Pryor put himself in Vick controversy

Ohio State's tremendously talented quarterback Terrelle Pryor wore a piece of eye black before Saturday's game with the word "Vick" on it. Here's what he said after the game about it.

I've never had a problem with athletes speaking out or having opinions. A lot of people do, both fans and members of the media. I had this very conversation with Kelly Webster from ESP...

Stanback to be QB in New England

10:57 PM Tue, Sep 08, 2009 |
Ted Madden

Apparently, the New England Patriots brass thinks more of the recently-cut Isaiah Stanback as a quarterback than the Dallas Cowboys ever did.

When the Cowboys drafted Stanback in 2007, it was to be a wide receiver and kick returner, even though Stanback played quarterback at Washington. I never saw Stanback line up at QB, even as a wildcat (of course, the media doesn't get to watch practice during the season, just training camp). Dall...

Cowboys hope corners aren't like quarterbacks

6:59 PM Fri, Sep 04, 2009 |
Joe Trahan

What's the line about quarterbacks?... when you've got two, you don't have one. The Cowboys hoping that doesn't apply to cornerbacksl.

Today Jerry Jones saying that 2nd year cornerbacks Orlando Scandrick and Mike Jenkins will be co-starters. Jenkins will start the season opener against the Bucs and Scandrick the home opener against the Giants. They'll both see plenty of time no matter who starts because they're both in on the nickel...

Cowboys 2009 Job Fair

5:50 PM Fri, Sep 04, 2009 |
Joe Trahan

The best thing about this final preseason game will be the final gun. Then we can cut all the pretense and get down to the games that count.

In the meantime, though, there are jobs to be won and NFL rosters to be made. The Cowboys have to trim their roster to the league-manated 53 by tomorrow afternoon at 3pm. That makes tonight important for several individuals.

At the top of that is list receiver Isaiah Stanback. The 2007 ...

Does BYU have a shot? What is AccuScore saying?

1:57 PM Fri, Sep 04, 2009 |
Josh Harvey

We are not even into the heart of week one in college football and we already have thrown a wrench into the BCS' plans. Boise State, who was ranked higher than Oregon, knocked off the Ducks and now have what some are saying a road to another undefeated season.

Could the Broncos be a BCS buster again this January? It's looking like it at this point. How crazy would the world of college football be if BYU somehow upset Oklahoma at Jerry...

FoxSport's Ken Rosenthal wants to buy the Texas Rangers. That is if he had enough money. With their success this season and youth, it's no surprise to see more and more national media outlets jumping on the bandwagon.

Boise State beat Oregon 19-8 last night .... and here we go! The Broncos' first game of the season was against its toughest opponent (as far as we can tell now), so they now appear poised to go undefeated and make some noise in the BCS.

Impressions from Valley Ranch

I was out at Valley Ranch for the first time since the draft in April, which actually sounds worse than it is, considering they held OTA's at Standridge Stadium in Carrollton after the indoor facility collapsed. But I hadn't been out there since the team returned from San Antonio. A couple of impressions....

The locker room had a slightly different look. There were a couple of tables surrounded by four chairs, and guys were sitting aro...

So where is Dallas Area Rapid Transit? The Fort Worth Star Telegram says today that the Fort Worth Transportation Authority will offer football fans a more economical way to get to Dallas Cowboys games by providing $5 round-trip bus service from downtown Fort Worth.

It's not a new idea. DART used to provide that kind of service to Texas Stadium. It was called the Cowboy Flyer, express bus service from park & ride lots around the area ...

The Texas Rangers are waiting for some good news today. Sure they remain in the playoff hunt, but losing third baseman Michael Young with a hamstring injury is a tough loss.

He has an MRI scheduled for later today after he strained his left hamstring running out a grounder in the third inning of the nightcap of a doubleheader.

"I'm optimistic," Young said. "I'll be really aggressive with my treatment and try to get back on the...

Adam Pacman Jones is back in football

1:43 PM Tue, Sep 01, 2009 |
George Riba

Adam "Pacman" Jones is back on the football field. It's not in the NFL, but instead, it's the Canadian Football League.

According to reports, Jones will join the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. It's amazing that no NFL team wanted to take another chance on the 26-year old cornerback, but apparently his record is too much for any team to deal with.

Jones missed the entire year before signing with the Cowboys last season. His suspension ...

Sports Illustrated previews Cowboys

The NFL preview issue of Sports Illustrated comes out tomorrow, and we were e-mailed the preview for the Dallas Cowboys. The magazine has them finishing 2nd in the NFC East.

These preview articles always have a hook - something or someone specific to write around - and SI uses Roy Williams. Not a bad choice, considering how much talk he has generated here in Dallas. In the article, Williams talks about trying to forge a relationship wit...
