Rangers fans who kept wondering what might have happened if Edinson Volquez were still wearing a Rangers uniform can move on now. Volquez was traded to Cincinnati for Josh Hamilton and today, he underwent Tommy John surgery. Doctors repaired a torn ulnar collateral ligament and torn flexor mass in his right elbow. He is not expect back for 12 months and more realistically, isn't expected to be back to full form until the 2011 season at the earliest. Volquez was a 17-game winner and an All-Star last season, but hadn't pitched since June 1st. He threw a career-high 196 innings for the Reds last year. |
