The All-Star Break is upon us and the MLB season is more or less at its halfway point. The Rangers come into the break 48-39 and 1.5 games out of first place in the AL West, after going 3-4 on a West Coast road trip against division rivals the Angels and the Mariners. The team is exceeding nearly everyone's pre-season expectations, but has had a rough stretch recently. I got a text from one of the biggest Rangers fans I know that expressed what lots of fans I've talked to are thinking. It read "When do the Rangers collapse? August or September?" So, I pose the question to you: do the Rangers' bats heat up again in the second half and the pitching stays strong, leading to postseason baseball? Or do they continue their recent slump and crash out of contention? Or maybe you're like me, somewhere in between. I think the Rangers will keep fighting and be in contention in the last week of the season, but the Angels are too strong and the AL East runner-up virtually has the Wild Card locked up. What do you think? Where will the Rangers be in October? 5 CommentsLeave a comment |

As long as Josh Hamilton can stay healthy, that lineup will continue to produce runs. They have some good arms in the minors (Neftali Feliz looked awfully good in the Futures game) that I think they will bring up come crunch time in September. If Millwood can start pitching like he did at the beginning of the year, I don't see why the Rangers can't take down the Angels in September. They do have 7 games against them in the last two weeks, so if they can keep it close, anything can happen.
I just dont believe the pitching staff will hold up in the last quarter of the season...They just dont have a full complement of play-off caliber players/pitchers..."A" teams get deep into the playoffs, Rangers are a "B" or a "B+" at best. Getting to the playoffs is not enough, there should be an expectation of AT LEAST the Pennant. Great post, Mr. Arnold
The Rangers, unfortunately, are not the Astros, and don't have a late Aug/Sept surge in them. They'll certainly stay in the hunt if the offense remains healthy, but I think we'll see them drop a game or two each month, and be 4-6 out of the wild card.
I'll bet jerry jones is hoping the rangers
collapse so they won't steat the thunder from
the Jones Mahal. You know....the monument
Jerry built honoring himself.
They will collapse if they keep the same pitchers that they have now. Not naming any names but his initials are C.J. Wilson. Why hasn't he been moved to the minors? He either comes in and loses the game or puts you on the edge of your seat with the winning run on base. Man, I wish he could come in and get 3 quick outs. That would be nice, and unexpected.
