Notre Dame has been in touch with TCU about filling a spot on their 2010 football schedule Blue and Gold, a site dedicated to covering the Fighting Irish, reported Monday. The game would pit one of college football's perennially overrated teams (Notre Dame) against a perennially underrated one (TCU). These are exactly the kind of matchups college football fans love to see. Two very good teams going up against each other, not another 50-point win over a FCS school there for a payday. Teams should take a cue from Ohio State and Southern Cal (and perhaps Notre Dame and TCU) and take the gamble of playing a marquee non-conference opponent. The Buckeyes still get their allotment of winnable games, with games against Navy, Toledo and New Mexico State on the schedule, but just one marquee matchup has the fans excited in Columbus. Similar to Ohio State, USC welcomes San Jose State, but will also travel to Notre Dame. Part of the problem with college football scheduling is that much of it is done very far in advance. Games like Oklahoma-Miami (Florida) had fans drooling when they were announced in February of 2006, but when 2007 and 2009 rolled around the games had lost much of their luster. The same could hold true of the potential TCU-ND matchup, but since it is only one year away, it's doubtful either team will fall back drastically. Notre Dame's athletic director says he wants the team's 2010 slate set in stone before the start of the 2009 season. Hopefully, we'll see TCU in the shadows of Touchdown Jesus in 2010. The fans will benefit, even if one of the teams takes a big hit. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |

If there's anything that can make me a Frog for the day, it's TCU playing Notre Dame.
As an SMU fan, it's really hard to see how far TCU has gone in the last 10 years while we've done absolutely nothing...maybe this year, or next, or after that.
Did anything ever come out of this?
