Obama's first pitch

I've read a lot of chatter about President Obama's first pitch last night, whether it made it to home plate or did Pujoles catch it on a short hop. That I don't really care about. What I was most excited about was the fact the President is representing the South Side! As a White Sox fan, I still feel like the franchise is viewed nationally with general indifference, despite playing in the 3rd largest market in the country and winning the World Series in 2005 (in what was at the time the lowest-rated World Series in TV ratings history, if I remember right). So it's pretty cool to see the President wearing Sox gear.

Another thought about the first pitch ... do people who throw out the first pitch get to warm up? Especially if it's someone like President Obama, whose love for playing basketball has been well documented. If he considers himself an athlete - and because he's throwing out a first pitch that millions of people will see - isn't it important to throw a good pitch. If so, shouldn't the President have been under the stadium somewhere throwing for a few minutes, just to loosen up? And maybe he was, but we never hear about this.

A question for you - if YOU were offered to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at a baseball game, what would you do? Would you throw from the pitching mound or in front of it? Would you throw a curveball? Would you throw it as hard as you can? I would go submarine.

The President said when he was talking on air in the second inning, that he did indeed warm up under the stadium. He also said he had been practicing in The Rose Garden.
Given the chance, I would throw my fastball from the top of the mound. Do it right or don't do it at all I say.

Thanks Mike. I was watching the game last night at a place where they didn't have the audio going, so I didn't hear that. I was kind of hoping the President hadn't warmed up, because it really didn't look like he had.
