Bashing Romo

The bashing of Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has to stop - it really does. Now since I am the voice of reason this is easier for me than some people but let me explain.

The biggest problem with Romo seems to be that after 2 and a half years as a starter he hasn't won a playoff game yet ... and as horrible as that may well be ... does anyone remember the name Troy Aikman?

'89 '90 and '91 ... Aikman didn't win a playoff game ... now the cowboys did in '91 ... but former coach Jimmy Johnson didn't think Aikman should start in those playoff games ... so Steve Beuerlein did .... lot of people thought then Beuerlein was better.

How'd that work out?

Here's a better one ... Peyton Manning joined the Colts in '98 ... and didn't win a playoff game until the 2003 season ... 5 years without a playoff win .. played 4 and lost all 4 and one of those years the Colts were 13 and 3.

Now how is it possible you can go 13 and 3 and lose your 1st playoff game? Good thing the cowboys don't have Peyton Manning playing quarterback on this team.

Or how about this one ... John Elway joins the Broncos in '83 ... they go 4 years before he gets his 1st playoff win in '87 .... and in '84...
THEY WERE 13 AND 3 BUT LOST IN THE 1ST ROUND ... OH NO !! SAY IT AIN'T SO!

The bashing of Romo has reached such ludicrous heights that a guy on ESPN said the other day ... Romo blew 2 leads in the baltimore game last year in the 4th quarter.

Cowboys never did lead in the 4th quarter of that game ... Romo led 'em to 2 touchdowns only to see the defense give up 2 long touchdown runs .... maybe the ESPN reporter thinks Romo should have made the tackle.

I want to see Romo and the Cowboys win a playoff game too ... makes my January a much better month ... and if they don't win a playoff game this year.

Let's see if Brett Favre will come back ... and add to that all time playoff interception record he has

Thank you Dale for being the voice of reason. I also find it ridiculous that everyone is all over Romo as being a bad QB when the evidence is just not there. He does need to make some improvements with his ball control, but the defense has done more to loose games in the last two years than he has. GO COWBOYS!!!

Is this really Dale Hansen? I only ask because you're making sense for a change...

I think you have it all wrong, Hansen (as usual). You assume people bash Romo because he hasn't won a playoff game. That may be the excuse the sports pundits use. But I think most people bash Romo because he's not serious about the game. The boy has a lot of growing up to do. He's not a professional, he doesn't deserve the salary he pulls down, and he doesn't deserve - therefore - to wear the jersey of America's team. It's that simple. When he finally grows up, people will stop saying nasty things about him and grant him the respect he will then deserve. He's talented -- it's a shame.

Dale's right....Rome is just a kid, give him a chance to grow up and then you will see.....

Again Master Hansen you are correct sir. How many complete seasons has Tony Romo played??? yeah, that's what I thought. The glorious thing about football is that it isn't about one guy. It can't be. There are 10 other men out there with him. They ALL SUCCEED as a TEAM or they ALL FAIL as a team. This line of argument is so much like blaming a kicker for missing a "game winning" field goal. If the TEAM had been doing what it was supposed to do you wouldn't need to rely on the lowly kicker. What killed Dallas last year was it's complete lack of discipline, passion, and teamwork.

First, what's taking so long for the cowboys to sign their BEST player DWAre? Romo was "GIVEN" a a 60 million dollar contract after 1 1/2 years of starting while DWare has been to 3 pro-bowls and has not been OFFERED a contract???. This brings back memories of Emmitt having to holdout for his contract while AIKMAN was just "GIVEN" his...I digress. As far as Romo is concerned, I really don't expect as much success because of his inability to protect the ball and he will have a hard time replacing the 38 tds in 3 years from T.O., But we shouldn't worry, his good buddy witten's 12 tds in 3 yrs will be suffice won't it. Hasn't McNAbb has done MORE with LESS than Romo. Give McNAbb T.O., Barber, Witten, Roy Williams and Crayton and see if he can win a playoff game. He's went to 4 NFC title games with just Westbrook!!! If Jason Garrett who never seemed to find a way to RUN THE SLANT to T.O.,could utilize all of his options and the cowboys stay healthy on the O-Line, they could make the playoffs, then Romo can prove all of his doubters wrong. We will see...

Dale I am baffled by all the critics of Tony Romo! The fans here seem to forget the days of Ryan Leaf, Anthony Wright and Chad Hutchison. What I contribute a large amount of this to is our media. We don’t get the stories about Tom Brady going to New York to see one of his baby mamma’s during his bye week. And we are in the town that did boo the GREAT Troy Aikman at the end of his career.
What kills me is Romo is a good guy with lots of talent. I listened to ESPN radio on the way home from work and heard how Romo could not lead his team because of the way he answered questions. I think it has more to do with Romo not wanting to play the media games. If a player does not answer the questions the way the media wants, if he does not play the game they crucify him… I heard RJ Choppy do it last night… And if a player does play by the rules they will defend and protect that player until the bitter end.
Too bad for all of us we don’t get the feel good stories about the good guys. We don’t hear near enough of the charity work and good things they do. We only hear opinions and stories about how a guy cant win a Super Bowl (not because of talent of course) because he answered a stupid media question about how mature he is in JULY!

Romo is the latest version of Danny White. I hear everyone (media type) say Troy didn’t win a playoff game until his 4th year. Well how long did it take the great Roger Staubach to win a Superbowl after he became the fulltime starter? Romo is content with the success he has had to this point and doesn’t show the passion, fire or desire to do better. He has the big contract, bagged some superstar chicks.,.life is good..
