What a great weekend of baseball at the NCAA regional tournament in Austin.
Here's a list of some of the accomplishments/milestones by the University of Texas baseball team in this weekend's regional play.
Saturday - Texas vs Boston College
- NCAA all-division-record 25 innings - The teams broke the record set in 1971, 23 innings between Louisiana-Lafayette and McNeese State
- Game was played in 7-hours and 3 minutes
- Texas' pitcher Austin Wood pitched 12.1 innings in relief without a hit
- 18 innings of scoreless baseball
- Teams combined for 42 strikeouts, 222 total chances, 69 assists, 192 plate appearances and 171 at-bats - all NCAA records
- Texas set NCAA records with 91 at-bats, 103 plate appearances, 115 total chances and 75 putouts
- Longhorn's Travis Tucker and Michael Torres each had 12 at-bats to set a new NCAA record for plate appearances
Sunday - Texas vs Army
- Texas started the bottom of the 9th down 4-runs and then scored 8 runs to win the game
- Preston Clark, a senior from Rockwall, hit a walk-off grand slam to give the Longhorns the win
- Texas wins 31st Regional Championship
Texas, the number one seed overall in the NCAA tournament will face TCU in next weekends Super regional best of three series.
