The Texas Rangers may be trying to move volatile pitcher Vicente Padilla. According to a Fox Sports report, the Rangers have requested outright waivers on the starting pitcher. Rival teams can submit claims on Padilla until noon Friday, according to the report, which says that any team claiming him would assume his remaining $8 million salary. John Blake, the Rangers executive vice president of communications, said the team would not comment on the matter. Padilla returned from the disabled list last night in a 12-3 loss to the New York Yankees. He gave up seven runs in 3.2 innings of work. Padilla hit former Ranger Mark Teixeira with pitches twice Tuesday. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 22 (retroactive to May 17) with right shoulder bursitis. For the season, Padilla is 3-3 with 5.57 ERA in nine starts. 5 CommentsLeave a comment |

wow - didn't see that one coming - an outright release?
apparently brylcream didn't help his slider
typical rangers move, get rid of the number 2 pitcher, but we'll keep the guy who has a 180 avg. and has struck out 80 times two months in the first two months of the season
Smart move here. Padilla's attitude has no place on this team.
And I'm assuming bobert is referring to Chris Davis, who is in a slump. But that being said, IMHO, he is one of the top three defensive first basemen in the American League, if not MLB. And he will eventually break out of this slump. BTW, his single tonight drove in the game winning run.
Padilla's habit of plunking hitters was tired. Let him go to the National League, where he might change his MO, once he gets hit a few times.
I agree with hookem. It was way past time for Padilla to go. Not only was his plunking of batters tiring, he was incredibly slow with his pitching! I'm sure his teammates, especially the catcher, would've appreciated him speeding up his delivery time! Chris Davis is an excellent defenseman, and even though he is in a horrible slump right now, he'll eventually break through it. He finally had a hit/RBI in the Yankees game last night, so hopefully that's a hint of things to come for him!!
