The Atlanta Falcons have released quarterback Michael Vick. It's not a surprise since he was incarcerated for bankrolling a dogfighting operation and will be released from his 23-month sentence July 20. There's a couple important things to note, though. First is that Vick would still have to be reinstated by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, which is not a sure thing anytime soon. Then there's the Falcons, who had a great season last year with Matt Ryan at quarterback and don't need the trouble that comes with Vick. The also knew there would be no trade value. "In the event NFL commissioner Roger Goodell decides to reinstate Michael," said Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff, "we feel his best opportunity to re-engage his football career would be at another club." So Vick is a suspended free agent. We know how Cowboys owner Jerry Jones likes those guys (see Pacman Jones and Tank Johnson). But, as I've written before, Jerry should not even think about bringing Vick to Dallas.

I have been a life long fan of the Dallas Cowboys. My father took us to games every year from the time I was old enough to remember. I am a animal lover and if the Cowboys were to consider even entertaining the idea of even talking to Vick I would consider NEVER being a fan anymore.
I would trade my lifelong love for the boys in and bring everything I had ever purchased to Valley Ranch and leave it I would not want it anymore. It sickens me to know we could even entertain this animal to be a Cowboy.
Now, Jerry does have a liking to trying to straighten out the bad boys, but this goes too far. I hope this is just a rumor and there is NO truth to this at all. I know there are people all over the world that are fans that would hang it up for good if this ever became true.
Please Jerry don't make that mistake he is not worth it.
Scott
Cowboys are a joke now anyway. They are the new Oakland Raiders. This team will not win another superbowl. Why would Vick want to come hear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jerry Jones needs to forgot Michael Vick. Vick is trash and has not paid nearly enough for the pain and suffering he put the dogs through.
I would loose my mind if Vick came to Dallas. I would NOT be a fan, watch a single game or utter the words Dallas Cowboys if that sadistic thing was on our Team.
If the Cowboys are supposed to be "America's Team" then even entertaining the thought of bringing that thing here is insane. It would be a DISGRACE to our Boy's! I doubt there is a team out there that would touch him.
Jerry Jones has done some quetionable things; I can only pray he does not add this to the list.
Guess your not real cowboy fans anyway, Are you kidding me no one deserves a second chance I guess either?
Michael Vick was wrong no doubt about it , But as a Football Fan he brings alot to the league whether we like it or not, He is an Exceptional athelete and he made some mistakes, How about OJ..... Everyone still loves this guy and he was an anchor for some time after ...and the glove didnt fit....CMON..... Lets get over it if Jerry brings him to dallas I give him some Kudos.....
Put him as a receiver... He would be unstoppable !
Spring really brings out the panzies. I would NEVER be a fan...blah blah blah. You won't be missed.
A lot of the animal loving comments below are very frustrating. While I appreciate a dog as much as the next person, I love Football for a completely different reason. You should enjoy football for the competition, skill, and feeling that comes with being mentally devoted to one particular team.
I could care less what these guys do in their personal lives, as long as they make a contribution to the team (ON THE FIELD). I've been a life long Cowboys fan and there isn't anything Jerry could do that would that. If you feel that you can take them or leave them, then great. However, I find it very hard to believe; otherwise you wouldn’t be so involved in this story. You would be upset for a while but you wouldn't turn in your Cowboys attire for life. You can tell yourself you would as a way to feel good about your moral stance, but the fact is you put your Cowboys jersey, or T-Shirt, or house slippers or BBQ apron every Sunday just like the rest of us.
Nope, I would not watch a single game so long as that thing was on the team. Just b/c he is a good player does not mean he is the type of person I want to watch play the game. On the field or off; doesn't matter when the crime is something like what Vick did.
Would you want an admitted 9/11 terrorist on the team? One that laughed and enjoyed it? Same principle.
VICK enjoyed killing and torturing those dogs. He found PLEASURE in it. Any self respecting human that has any type of heart would see how absolutely wrong this is. He crossed the line.
Minor offenses I can over look; major ones like what Vick did I can not. I cannot and I will not. It's my choice to watch the Cowboys and I will choose not to. Not ONE SINGLE GAME! I won't do it and I won't care because in my eyes the team does not represent what I feel it should. Last time I checked America was still a Free country - although we are leaning more and more towards Socialism, so it is still my right to choose and I will choose to distance myself from the Cowboys. Maybe not for life, but so long as that Sick Sick disgusting representation is on the team.
What he did was just TOO wrong. I can't get over it and I don't want to get over it.
Its over with. He will never be a qb in the league. HOwever with his felony, he would make a great superstar receiver.. Would be great addition to our receiving corps and fits right in with our WR legacy
Come on guys.. get real. Jones got rid of pacman, Johnson, etc. he is cleaning up the ship... At least on paper.
Go Cowboys,
I was born in Dallas, and have been a life long fan and gone to many games. As much as it would hurt me heart and soul, if Jerry goes after Vick and he is on this team. I will turn my back and walk away, I am a huge animal lover and I will never support a team that give that kind of "animal" a second chance. Those dogs got no second chance.
If Botox Jerry hired Michael Vick and then brought back Pacman - the cowboys could change their uniform colors to white with black stripes. Or, just orange. I would find Neanderthal ball sports more interesting that way.
Romo or Vick? ROMO!
My thoughts and prayers go out to anyone dumb enough to be a fan of the Cowboys, or to think that it is OK and forgivable to torture and kill dogs like Michael Vick did. There is not much lower than what he did. If you really think the Cowboys should considering bring him in and that football is that important I hope you get put in a ring with a bunch of hungry pit bulls. The world be a better place without Michael Vick, Jerry Jones, and you.
Life long fan seen many of games at the old stadium but i would hate to see Mike Vick in a Cowboys uniform
Jerry don't do it
The guy is a quality player--mostly as a Vince Young style running back, who happens to play from the QB position. He would need an offense that is designed around him, and would not be our starter. I don't think he will be readmitted without a suspension from Goodell--he embarassed the league enough. I don't think Jerry would touch this guy with a 10 foot pole--the fans would turn on him too much. Not a good thing to happen when you open your new showplace stadium.
I don't care what Vick brings to the table or how good he really is as an athlete. He doesn't deserve to come back to the NFL period. Being a professional athlete is a blessing and if you burn that bridge with stupid behavior, you should not be allowed to build that bridge back up. Especially for the sake of getting yourself out of trouble the "easy" way. Vick just wants to get back in the NFL to help drag himself out of debt. (what his stupidity got him into)
Make him waddle in his own mess for a while and see how tough it is when you don't have money and/or fame to hide behind.
I'm tired of seeing the rich and famous buy themselves out of trouble. You know just as well as I do that they do less time than we would do if any other "no body" would have done the same crime.
The system doesn't work until you start making even the rich accountable for their actions by keeping them from buying their way out of trouble.
Yes he served time. big whoopi do. Now he needs to feel the aftermath of how hard it is to re-build your life back up from bad choices made when you don't have money and fame to fall back on.
Regarding the Cowboys piece in this story...
I am a HUGE Cowboys fan. Born and raised in Dallas and have continued to support the Cowboys no matter how bad they have been along the way. True fans don't turn their backs on a team just because of a selfish owners decisions or games lost. I think Jerry Jones has over stayed his welcome with the Cowboys. It's time for him to retire. He once was really good at building the Cowboys empire but now he has lost his flare. He is selfish for the teams well-being and more insightful about his pocketbook as is Hicks with the Rangers. I hope Jerry isn't stupid enough to bring on Vick. I think no team should give Vick the satisfaction, but if they ever did I would still forever be a Cowboys fan.
Can anyone spell correctly anymore??
WOW!!! I am amazed at how so many people can be bitter towards a guy who has paid his debt to society and is trying to begin a new life. We have professional athletes who have killed PEOPLE while driving drunk, physically abused their wives, and done many more dispicable things. And we want to continue to crucify and badger the character of Michael Vick? Spare me! We are still a nation that is so divided that we can't look past a man's faults and let him move on with his life. I am not disregarding the fact that he made a horrible decision by funding a dog fighting ring, but how many of us have made STUPID decisions and had to pay for them? And after the debt was paid all we longed for was reconciliation from those connected to us. I am sure Michael Vick has learned from this. Unlike SEVERAL of other pro athletes, this was his first major off the field incident. Its amazing how people will love you one moment and hate you the next. Wow! People never cease to amaze me.
...and romo is much better?
Sarah Palin authorized the shooting of wolves form helicopters. Wolves are dogs and she basically killed them. I'm not saying vick was right for being involved in the killing of dogs. But, the two situations are similar. She ran for the vice presidency and he went to prison. I wonder why their traetment was so different
I am a Cowboys lover. And a dog lover. I don't know why it is so much more unforgivable when the crimes are against animals...it just is. They don't have a voice. I will be one of their many substitute voices. I have been to some cowboys' games. Would like to go to somemore. I have cowboys T-shirts, sweatshirts, bandanas, even...heaven forbid...a Cowboy's collar on my dog. All will be burned if Vick ever shows up on a Cowboys field. If he plays for any team in the NFL, I will not watch a single game.
Bye bye, Michael. Have fun flipping burgers for the rest of your life.
I forgot to add...to all of you out there of the same opinion...if Vick's reality TV show ever actually makes the air, don't forget to boycott, complain, and make sure your friends, family and neighbors boycott! TV producers should not benefit from that cretin's butchery any more than the NFL should.
I don't want Vick here just because he is really not that great a QB. Where is is said that anyone is entitled to a second chance? How about some of these killers on Texas Death row? Do they all deserve second chances?
That said, The saddest part of all this is that football is a violent sport, that is why we watch it. We want the violence, mayhem and madness that a good rivalry brings. If you are honest with yourself, how is it much different than a dog fight? Both activities are gruesome and barbaric. One results in the death of dogs, and the other in the maiming of grown men. How can anyone pass judgment in this case?
I can't believe some of u people. I am a owner of three pit bulls and i don't like what he did like most of the american public. It gives the breed a bad name. But at the same time, this man has paid his dept to society. He was judged by a jury of his peers and served the penalty that was dealt to him. Now he should be able to began his life again. And football was his life. Get over it.
Just because I live in Texas doesn't make me a Dallas Cowboy fan. My dislike of the BOYS is this, ''As long as a Jones owns the team I'll be for the other's'' My point is, I hope Jerry gets Vick. With all the other jailbirds he's had and got on the team, Vick will fit right in.Besides, once he scores his first touchdown Cowboy's fans will forgive him. Forget the playoff fans, as long as you have a quarterback that has failed three out of three times, what makes you think he will win a playoff game the fourth time? Jerry's over-confidence is his weakness.
John, are you KIDDING me? What is the difference between a dog fight and pro football????? Two big differences: ONE - in pro football, the players get a choice. They make their own decision whether to participate or not. Dogs don't get to choose their fate. TWO - underperforming pro football players are not electrocuted, hanged, or drowned the way underperforming fighting dogs are. BIG, BIG difference between the two "sports".
I am a huge cowboy fan. Grew up here and have been an avid homer since I can remember. I could care LESS about Vick's personal problems. He's paid his debt according to the law. He's paid more in lost opportunity than most people could ever hope to have in a lifetime. He was in prison longer than most drug dealers and even many murderers. You people who whine about "quitting the team" if they brought him...good riddance. You're not a fan anyway.
There is more to life than football, and especially Cowboys' football! If they are ever to return to the status they once reached, they are going to have to have people with not only great athletic skills, but character as well.
Wow!!! I guess some of you have forgotten that the NFL is about winning! It's not about teaching right from wrong! It's not even about teaching how to help others, that just comes from some of the great players in the NFL. With that being said, all of you with negative comments about Vick, why are the next words out of your mouth I expect to hear are 'you know I'm a christian right" Judge not my friend, judge not.
I guess "No one believes in a second chance?" Michael Vick was dead wrong for bank rolling dog fights, but every person deserves a second chance to make things right. There is a lot of you guys posting that he does not deserve a second chance; that is crazy. We all have done some stupid things in our own lives and I know we all wanted a second chance to make things right. If the Dallas Cowboys decided to pick up Michael Vick; I would support the team. I have one question for you guys. If Michael Vick was your only son and he commited this crime, do you believe he deserves a second chance then? I am a Cowboy fan for Life.
I love animals just like the next person unfortunately mikes association with the dog fighting incident has tainted his persona, but on same token we all know how this man had he been white the blow would not have been career ending.
White america needs to really try putting humans before animals,he deserves a second chance, you let george bush and his administration kill thousands of human beings, were is that outrage.
Mike Vick was wrong and has paid for this and will live with this the rest of his life, but i tell you this their are more people that want to see this man get the chance turn his life around than you think, can you say millions.
So sad...amazing how people are quick to forgive others when they hurt or kill other human beings...but kill dogs and folks lose their minds. Think people, think before you post. Why is it okay to kill and maim innocent people in the carriage of war, but unforgivable to be involved in dog fights? You need to take a good long look at yourselves in the mirror and re-assess your thoughts. I'm pretty sure some of you who called him an animal are "Christians," so live up to your proclaimations to forgive the sinner, especially since you all may have some skeletons in your closet. Marinate on this for a moment...Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
