What did we learn about the Mavs?

With the Mavs season coming to a close last night, we learned a few things about this latest installment of the Dallas Mavericks.

1. They showed more grit and heart than previous Mavs teams - they were never completely out of any game, Denver was just the better team and usually, like this series, it shows over the course of 7 games, or in this case 5.

2. This is still a jump-shooting team - when it comes down to it, this team loves the 20-footers. When Dirk puts his back to the basket like in game 4, ahem 44 points ahem, and the offense runs through him, this team CAN be very good. He needed more touches last night.

3. To point 2: Dirk is still an elite player in this league. If you think you can argue that with logic, you are an idiot. Look at his numbers from this series: 34.4 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. For all those Dirk bashers out there, please give me a good reason why you disagree with my point.
On a side note: TNT's player role graphic when a player shoots free throws is probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. Especially when Kenyon Martin's shows up as "elite defender." What is elite about "holding" Dirk to 34/11/4?

4. Jason Terry - where'd u go in the playoffs? It's very obvious when this team doesn't have a 3rd competent scorer, they can't compete with the better teams. Terry had a very forgettable playoffs.

5. Josh Howard - what an effort on his part. Two bad ankles, a couple questionable shot selections and technical foul, but for the most part, what an effort. If he can ever get back to 100% and get back to the slasher mentality he had to start his career, next year looks a little more promising

6. The Erick Dampier experiment has been an epic fail. Thank you Avery Johnson for just having to have him. There's no way Dampier has earned half of his $73 million contract in his tenure in Dallas. Thankfully, if the Mavs can't move him this offseason, he will be gone after next year.

7. We got spoiled by the first round series win over the Spurs. I've wondered if the Spurs lost that series, as beat up as they were, and thought "Have fun with the Nuggets." No Ginobili and Duncan on one leg made the Spurs a much easier team to beat, and when Dallas did so, I think the expectations got too high. Still, being a top 8 team in the NBA isnt a bad thing. But, in the end, all that matters is a championship, just ask Dirk.

So now we move on to the offseason again with no championships. Like I said, Dirk is still elite in this league, let's get the guy some help shall we?

We learned that they are gutless, and have no
leadership from top to bottom. You must have
a mentality to win(Billups). Mavs don't have
that. They have a few with some fight, but
you must put winning mentality together with
the will to fight to be a winner. Can't just
be a fighter. Jordon always knew the right
thing to do. The Mavs sometimes look clueless.

I just want to say thanks Dirk......you are a winner. You always show class when all others are falling apart.....you are a great player. Also thanks to Josh for playing in so much pain you are a warrior. And JJ you gave us life when we needed it...you have the heart of a lion.

Dallas' Starting Five next year if we resign Kidd.

PG - Jason Kidd
SG - Josh Howard
SF - Lamar Odom
PF - Dirk Nowitzki
C - Erick "I suck and I am old but get paid millions....I duped them all!" Dampier.

6th man - Jason Terry

This Line Up Sucks.

If we are active in the off season:

PG - Raymond Felton (Cuban can make it happen)
SG - Josh Howard
SF - Ron Artest (Just made 9 mil last year...cheap)
PF - Dirk Nowitzki
C - David Lee ( Just made 1.79 last year can score and rebound)

Bench: Jason Terry, Antoine Wright, JJ, Damp, Green.

Better More athletic and a very physical line up. And a young point guard to feed everyone the ball and score around the rim.

3 times!
