The Biggest Loser: Mavs Edition

Who exactly was the biggest loser in the Dallas Mavericks heartbreaking last second loss to the Denver Nuggets?

By the way, in case you haven't heard, Nuggets 106 - Mavericks 105. The Mavericks are now one game away from being swept in this best of seven series and eliminated from NBA post season play. Aside from the final tally on the scoreboard, was there yet a larger loser on the floor? Here are my choices for you or if you would like, feel free to write in your own candidate.

Choice No. 1: NBA Officiating Crew
On paper, there is no question that the Mavericks have reason to cry foul following the referee's non-call on the intentional foul by Antoine Wright on Carmelo Anthony in the closing seconds of game 3. As a result Anthony launches and connects on a three pointer and this game is over, Nuggets win; forget about it, it's in the books.

Choice No. 2: Mark Cuban

It's hard to argue the fact that Mark Cuban has a passion for the game of basketball and is one of the most committed team owners in the NBA. Cuban has spent millions of dollars in his attempt to covet the leagues most prized possession, the Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy.

However, in Cuban's case when exactly does passion cross the line with lack of objectivity and stupidity? Following the emotional and disappointing last second loss of game three to the Nuggets Cuban found himself on the middle of the playing court having yet another "Cuban" in your face emotional outburst. In the process of releasing his anger Cuban managed to shove aside a television sports photographer there attempting to do his job. CBS 11 sports photographer Bill Ellis says that not only did Cuban manage to shove him aside but he also managed to share a few choice words, "get the (bleep) out of my way".

Choice No.3: Josh Howard

Following the final buzzer Josh Howard had to be restrained by assistant coach Daryl Armstrong and a security guard as he made a b-line dash for game official Mark Wunderlich. In his outrage Howard manage to take his frustrations out on a Dallas Morning News photographer, breaking a camera lens in the process.

I would say that the local media is by far the biggest losers for bashing our home team for over a week. The Maverick games employee a lot of people in this community and your efforts to end their season early greatly affects this community.

The NBA hates the MAVS, we already knew that. They make it obvious every time they let everyone hit Dirk in the face with hard fouls game after game, but they never suspend players for hitting him. Yet Dirk gets suspended every year if he tries to defend himself.

The NBA is no surprise, but what surprised me this week is how much the Dallas media tried to sabotage the home team. The Mavericks were having a hard enough time without the Dallas media trying to mess up their chances by bashing Dirk and his girlfriend for a whole week. I hope by now that you noticed that no one but you cared one way or the other. This was one of the biggest games of the year for the Mavs, but the Dallas media, not the Denver media, tried to do everything you could to keep the Dallas team from winning. I own a company that advertises on your affiliates, but I'm not spending another dime with the Dallas media until you learn to support Dallas companies, i.e. the Mavs.

Do you realize how much money is lost when the Mavs are out of the playoffs early? Have you noticed how many people work at the American Airlines Center. When you try to end the Mavs' season early, as your Dirk bashing has done, it puts a lot of people out of work and greatly affects the local economy. Since you want to bash the local team, put the American Airlines employees out of work, then we shouldn't support you!

If you wonder why Mark Cuban pushed the Channel 11 photographer after the game, it's because he is just like me. Sick and tired of the bashing of our home team from our local media. Maybe you should move to Denver, San Antonio, or somewhere else. This is Dallas and you're definitely not a part of this community.

By the way, I think the local media are the biggest losers in this case. You have bashed the Mavericks all week long when you should have supported them. I am amazed at how the local media has become the enemies of our community. The Mavericks establishment hires hundreds of people who will be out of work when this series is over. Did you think about that when you were intentionally trying to as you put it, "distract" Dirk so that he would not play well in the game? Our local media has become the enemy to our community. We support the Mavericks and they support us through their employment of our citizens who will now be on the employment lines, thanks to you. I can really understand why a few of your "soft" photographers got pushed after the game. Like Mark Cuban and Josh Howard, we are all sick and tired of our local media trying to destory our home team. Go DALLAS Mavericks! The citizens of DFW support you!

Oh, shut it, sportsmom, the media didn't cause ANY problems here. And I got news for you, it's the media's job to REPORT THE NEWS, not to support the team. We're very lucky to have responsible media here that at least tries for objectivity (at least, as pertains to sports and the major media outlets). Why you have this idiotic view that the media should abandon objectivity is a mystery to me, unless you've been dropped on your head one or two times to many.

It's no mystery to me that YOU are the biggest loser. Congratulations, you managed to surpass overgrown crybaby Cuban, quite an accomplishment. Yes, Cuban and the Mavs absolutely have cause to be upset. Yes, the refs completely blew the call. But Cuban has no right to take out his frustrations on an uninvolved bystander who had NOTHING TO DO with the loss or the refs' non-call. How old is he, about 50? Is he ever gonna grow up? Pathetic.

Richard,
I agree with you. Our job is not to be cheerleaders, it's to provide reporting and analysis.
It's nice to hear someone appreciates that.
Thank you.
Take care,
