A $3 million make-over was supposed to make Colonial tougher for the tour guys. Fort Worth's Rory Sabbatini estimated 2 to 3 shots harder per round. But these are not normal conditions at Colonial. There's ZERO wind. I mean none, zip, nada. And it doesn't matter how much more length or where they placed the bunkers, these guys are going to go low. Like the old ads said, these guys are good. Steve Stricker with back to back 63's showing how vulnerable Colonial is when the wind doesn't blow. Add in a big shower early in the week to soften the greens, and it really is like throwing darts out here. And so far, Strikers been sticking them better than anyone else. I don't suspect them to put much more water on these greens, so they could get crusty before the weekend is over, and Colonial could exact some revenge. But in the meantime, don't blame the guy who re-designed the course. Mother nature has made ideal conditions for scoring. Come to think of it, when you count the 4 days at the Nelson, we've had 6 tournament rounds with near perfect scoring conditions. Sabbatini set a new scoring record at the TPC Four Seasons, we'll see if something similar happens in Fort Worth |
