Romo making a run at the Nelson

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will try to keep a great golf season going Monday when he takes the first step towards qualifying for the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Last year, Romo failed to advance out of pre-qualifying by just one stroke. This year's pre-qualifier will be held on the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club's Dye and Hills courses. The top 23 finishers and ties from each course will make the Monday qualifier where the top 4 finishers earn a spot in the Nelson.

Cick here for tournament info. You'll have to click around to find tee times. Tony tees off at 9:30am.

Romo has also tried to qualify for the U.S. Open on more than one occasion. Last year he missed advancing by 4 shots in secional qualifying after carding a 5-over 75 at the Golf Club of Dallas.

Romo's also become a regular at the American Century Celebrity Championship in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.

The qualifying site should bring back good memories though. In April, Romo won the Adams Golf Pro Scratch Championship on the Stonebridge Dye Course. And a week before that, he also won the Will County Amateur Championship in Crete, Illinois.

We'll see if Tony can keep his golf winning streak going.

This is the with Romo, concentrate on football you simp. "if this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, then I've lived a pretty good life" Cowboy fans will be hearing this crap from Tony next January.

Oh come on, honestly? Do you think Romo is the only guy doing non-football stuff in the off-season? He shows up to practice and does his part. Lighten up, Francis.

Hey, Dianna O...I concede Mr. Romo showing up for practice. Now, as for "does his part", Seattle Jan 07, G-Men Jan 08, Steelers Dec 08, and the hideous debacle in Philly - prove that he does NOT do his part. Tony Romo will not be a playoff championship QB unless he focuses 100% on football. But why should TR focus on the playoffs? He already has his millions from Jerry! Stay healthy long enough to make mag covers, etc. Tony, because your performance in Philly turned this lifelong Cowboys fan (short for fanatic) into merely an interested observer, perhaps more are out there.

Good luck Tony. And don't worry about all the negative haters here. They can't play football and/or golf.

This won't be popular, but he better do something besides football. He looked great coming in for a geriatric has been, non mobile quarterback, but he has proved in two full seasons, he's a Danny White.
Danny holds or held more Cowboy records than any other other Cowboy quarterback. He just couldn't win the big ones.
I'm not dissing either of them, I'm just observing.
If we wait on Tony we're going to be waiting a long time.

Hey JRG.... he is doing his part. We wouldn't have even been in that Seattle game if it weren't for him. You act like those games you listed were all blowouts when in reality, only the Philly game was a blowout. Seattle was lost literally in inches and the G-men came down to one interception with no time to recuperate. Heartbreaking and frustrating for sure, but he is doing his part and he brings more positives than negatives to the team. And don't forget, he's not the only guy on the team. I'm sure you think he should be running routes 18 hours every day in the off-season.

You are assuming you know his motivations and that's just arrogance on your part. He wants a championship. To say he doesn't is just ridiculous. We all want a championship, but acting like every year without a Lombardi trophy is complete and utter failure is part of the arrogance that makes other fans hate us as Cowboys fans. Lighten up and enjoy the game.

Ok, fair or not, like it or not Tony's attitude and committment have come into serious question lately. And not just from fans but from team mates as well. If the Cowboys had won a Superbowl under his guidance no one would even be talking about this. But he hasnt even won a playoff game. This specific article doesnt mention it but Tony missed qualifying for the US Open, which, had he qualified, would have conflicted with a Cowboys veterans camp. Does that mean the Cowboys could never win a championship if Tony missed some of camp? Of course not. But if you are already taking a beating because of your committment/work ethic, why in the world would you EVER consider doing this? At the end of the day, Tony's golfing has nothing to do with winning football games. But until he wins a big game, his decisions on AND off the field will have people shaking their heads.
