UPDATE: Read statement from Ramirez.

Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez has been suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball after testing positive for performance enhancing drugs.

The Los Angeles Time broke the story and MLB has now confirmed the report.

"Ramirez is expected to attribute the test results to medication received from a doctor for a personal medical issue, according to a source familiar with matter but not authorized to speak publicly," the Times reported.

The suspension will start today and Ramirez will not be able to return until July 3.

The Dodgers are in first place in the N.L. West and have the best record in baseball at 21-8.
