Mine That Bird? No, it's the Rangers' 4-game win streak, providing one Metroplex team for fans to feel good about. With the Mavericks suddenly looking like 2nd round meat for the circling buzzards that are the Denver Nuggets, what's next on the horizon to look forward to? The Rangers? The feel-good story Rangers? You'd better believe it. That horrid pitching has made improvements of late, lifting Texas from 2nd worst ERA in baseball to sixth worst. Don't laugh...they've lowered it from 5.99 to 5.23 in less than two weeks. For the Rangers, that's major progress. We're only 26 games in, but this is proving to be a fun team to watch and track, much like a new and unpredictable stock that's slowly climbing up in value. Barring injury, Ian Kinsler will contend for American League MVP. Kevin Millwood looks to be that super-motivated contract year pitcher many predicted he would be. And Frankie Francisco has been dynamite as closer, notching eight saves- tops in the AL. Who knows how long this hot streak will last. Winning summers in Arlington are like mirages in the desert. But with the Mavericks on the verge of playoff extinction, fans will be counting on the Rangers to at least provide some sort of lasting distraction until Cowboys Training Camp. If not, it will be a long, hot, thirsty next few months before Tony Romo and Co. saddle up for another season.
