Do you remember a few weeks ago, when the Rangers were struggling and people were calling for manager Ron Washington to be fired? Yeah, it's a distant memory now. The Texas Rangers are in first place in the American League West. It's only early May and the Rangers are only three games above .500 (15-12) and only have a half-game lead over the Seattle Mariners, but first place is first place and the Rangers, even with 135 games to play, control their season. It's up to them. The Rangers got more good pitching Wednesday night. Scott Feldman pitched six strong innings, giving up just four hits and two runs. Derek Holland pitched two innings in relief and Frankie Francisco got the save as the Rangers defeated the Oakland A's 3-2. Earlier Wednesday, the Kansas City Royals (first in the AL Central) topped the Seattle Mariners, 9-1. In fact the Rangers are among three surprising first place teams in the AL with KC and Toronto. It's early, but first place is not bad. |
