So far, so good for the Dallas Cowboys, at least that's what head coach Wade Phillips says. "Thought it was a very good first day," Phillips said. "I think we have some free agents that are going to surprise us." In just a couple hours of practice you can't tell too much about the players, especially when they are in shorts, but there are some things that translate. "Pleased certainly with the attitude that theses guys have," Phillips said. He's says the 28 players in camp -- a combination of draft picks, rookie free agents and returning practice squad players -- are not in football shape yet, but were in decent shape. "It's a good camp for us and a good camp for players," Phillips said. While the coach said you can't tell everything from a session like this, he said you can tell how defensive backs and linebackers cover receivers. "I was pleased with our overall coverage ability," he said. "You can see ability." Phillips summed up the first day of rookie mini-camp pretty accurately: "It's only one day, we've got a long ways to go." |
