You can't really tell during a rookie mini-camp if guy will be a big-time player, but you can certainly get an idea if a guy won't be playing. Arizona State quarterback Rudy Carpenter is not going to be around long. If it wasn't enough the Cowboys first two quarterbacks are set in Tony Romo and Jon Kitna and the team used a fourth-round pick on Texas A&M's Stephen McGee, Carpenter is not doing himself any favors in the first impression department. He's not showing particularly good arm strength or accuracy. Carpenter doesn't put a lot of zip on the ball, which isn't terrible in drills, but will e a big problem in games. Quarterbacks coach Wade Wilson is spending quite a bit of time talking with the 23-year-old who will go into training camp as the fourth quarterback. |
