Mavs season likely ends tonight

Come on....you're thinking it too.

The Mavs did put up an heroic effort on Monday night, virtually willed to victory by Dirk Nowitzki in one of the gutsier performances of his career. Dirk was rewarded for his regular season efforts today by being named First Team All-NBA, very well deserved.

But Dallas is up against it tonight, going back inside the lair of the lion. The Nuggets have won 15 straight games at the Pepsi Center. Emotions will be high and Denver will be rockin'. Count on Kenyon Martin and Co. to come out fired up and with vengeance on their minds. If you think you've seen some heavy hitting in this series, you probably haven't seen anything yet. Tonight could get ugly.

Denver will also benefit by getting Chris Andersen (AKA Birdman) back into the lineup, following his bout with stomach cramps on Monday. If he's at full strength, the Mavs are in for an uphill climb.

Conventional wisdom says the Nuggets take game five in a rout tonight. It's up to Dallas to prove that wisdom wrong.

But don't hold your breath.

Mavs Win! said:

Actually David, I'm not thinking they lose at all. For one, Dirk has had about a dozen or more playoff performances every bit as gutsy as that one. Were you not here for Game 7 of Mavs vs Spurs in 2006? And as if he didn't have enough motivation, don't you think being named First Team All NBA won't have him fired up just a little?

Anderson is over rated. Just look at his stats. And Dallas most likely wins game 6 if there was such a thing as a do over. Anderson played in that game, didn't he?

The Nuggets are due for a home loss. Kenyon Martin can't play when he's mad. Cuban won't be there to fire up the crowd. Carmelo shouldn't even be playing after throwing a punch in the last game. Jason Terry's due. There's no quit in Howard. Bass will counter the Nuggets energy. It goes on and on and on....

Which series are you watching? There's no pressure on Dallas. Denver is about to lose its cool. If the Mavs win, they stand a chance at making history. Don't sell them short just yet. This thing is a long ways from being over.
