Mavericks season over after loss

For a sixth-seed in the NBA playoffs the Dallas Mavericks didn't do too bad.

That's no consolation after Wednesday's 124-110 loss to the Denver Nuggets in their second-round playoff series. The Nuggets won the series 4-1.

Mavs fans got spoiled by the Mavs mostly impressive series win over the third-seeded San Antonio Spurs. The second-seeded Nuggets were a different story.

While the Spurs were old and staid, the Nuggets were athletic and tough. It's a combination the Mavs never really handled very well.

Dirk Nowitzki did his best to carry the team. He had 30 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in Game 5 after 44 points in Game 4.

The problem was defense for the Mavs. The Nuggets shot 58.5 percent from the field and 42.3 percent from three point range.

"I think in the final analysis, Denver is a better team," Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle said after the loss.

Throughout the series it was the same script. The Mavs would come out strong early in the first quarter and fade, each time coming back, but not able to prevent the big runs from Denver.

The Mavs showed grit, but ultimately it wasn't enough. Their season is over now.

I think the MAVS played good..As good as they can be. I don’t think they have the talent needed to compete in the playoff and win...I see some changes coming ....you have to unless the plan is to never win passed the first round. Strategically, getting 36 yrs old guard....was a disaster this year. This was not the only mistake…but one worth mentioning. I think Cuban is likely kicking himself in the as# for that decision. He is good and a leader. But athletically not at the level you need to be in order to win playoff games.

Jason Terry is gone. The only way the Mavs keep Jason Kidd is to go and grab a talented 2 guard ( Ben Gordon) and a shutdown perimeter defender (Matt Barnes). Other than that you are looking at a sign and trade deal.

Its time that Dallas actually did something in the postseason to make this team better. it Sh*t or get off the pot time in Loserville, USA.
