In the blink of an eye, the Mavs went from being very much alive in their playoff series with Denver....to being just about dead. That's life in the NBA postseason, where fates and fortunes often hang by a delicate thread. The Mavs can complain all they want about the blown call in the final seconds and they'd be correct. The NBA has already agreed that the intentional foul by Antoine Wright should have been called and the Nuggets should have been inbounding the ball with about 3 or 4 seconds left in the game. But Dallas must also look inwards for blame. Too many missed free throws in the 4th quarter. Lack of offensive execution in the game's final moments, with the notable exception of Jason Terry's clutch three with about thirty three seconds left. Allowing Carmelo Anthony to waltz in for an easy dunk on the game's second to last possession. They all add up to a heartbreaking defeat, and one this team won't soon forget. Now the task is all but impossible. No team has ever successfully fought back from a 3-0 series deficit in the NBA playoffs. Still, credit must be given. The Mavs gave a gutsy performance in the face of adversity. Josh Howard played fairly well, despite his continually failing ankles. Dirk Nowitzki went through a hellish week, but played an inspired game....though he struggled in the game's final minutes. And Brandon Bass came off the bench to give the team the energy it sorely lacked in Denver for games one and two. Expect the Mavs to come out strong on Monday, if for a sense of pride than anything else. But the reality of the end will come soon enough. 4 CommentsLeave a comment |

I officially and totally hate the NBA. I do not believe for one second that there is not another Tim Donaghy scandal happening right now…This game is nothing but fixed for nothing but the green. I will never watch an NBA game again in my lifetime. What’s the point?? When you consistently see games officiated unfairly it just makes me sick…Usually you see refs calling fouls almost like they get a bonus for each foul called and when this guy clearly fouls Anthony before he takes the 3 point shot and a whistle is not blown is one of the most unbelievable things I have seen in professional sports. This game or league I should say is not fun to watch at all. The fact that if Anthony would have missed the shot would people still be complaining is completely irrelevant because this was about an intentional foul that was not called far before the shot was made.
If I were a Mavericks fan, I would likely not watch another NBA game too... especially when you have a team owner like Cuban who draws negative attention to his team from the NBA over the past decade (13 fines = $1.6 million). Do I think the NBA and its officials are punishing Cuban and his team for past complaints? No. But is sure is fun watching Cuban cry like a baby when his team blames others for their own post-season shortcomings, year after year after year after year. R.I.P.
This has been a physical series. Wright should have known better and wraped him up. Nuggets have gotten away with murder in Denver. If the refs dont see blood or an ambulance they are not going to call it in this series. Mavs are going down no doubt. They can leave thier mark by being brutal in the next game. Make sure key Nuggets players when fouled are lying on thier backs. Each Mavs player should not finish the next game without a flagerant 1 or 2 foul and at leave at least 1 Nuggets player with a serious injury. Mavs have nothing to lose.
The blown call was sure to be infuriating regardless of whether Anthony hit the shot or not. He hit it so the Mavs season is finished with a blown call, Dallas fans are angered. If he misses the shot Dallas gains the win and momentum by a blown call, Denver fans are angered. This call MUST be made.
I agree the Mavericks dug the hole by bad play-calling and missed shots, but the refs pushed them in this hole by swallowing their whistles.
Another inconclusive, questionable season in the books for the NBA...
