Tommy Hunter will get his first action of 2009 for the Rangers making the game 1 start tomorrow due to injuries two Rangers starters Vicente Padilla and Matt Harrison. From the Texas Rangers: The Rangers have named right-handed pitcher Tommy Hunter as the starter for tomorrow's Game 1 of a doubleheader vs. Oakland at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. It would be his first appearance in the majors this season. Hunter has gone a combined 2-2 with a 4.89 ERA (27 ER/49.2 IP) in 9 games/7 starts with Frisco (AA) and Oklahoma City (AAA). He is 1-2 with a 4.82 ERA (15 ER/28.0 IP) over 4 games/starts since being promoted to Oklahoma City on May 2. Hunter last pitched on Sunday at Las Vegas, recording a no decision despite entering the 9th inning of that game with a shutout (8.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R-2 ER/3 BB, 5 SO, 0 HR, 123 pitches/82 strikes). he 22-year-old made his major league debut with 3 starts for the Rangers last season. He was just the second player from the 2007 June draft class to appear in the major leagues. Hunter was selected in the supplemental first round (54th overall) of that 2007 June draft. A potential move to accommodate Hunter on the 25-man roster is still yet to be determined. Hunter is already on the 40-man roster. |
