James Harrison, the Pittsburgh Steelers defensive MVP, won't be making the trip to the White House this week when the rest of the defending world champions do so. Harrison, who skipped the invitation in 2006 as well, says it's no "big deal." The linebacker told Pittsburgh's WTAE-TV, "If you want to see the Pittsburgh Steelers, invite us when we don't win the Super Bowl. So as far as I'm concerned he would have invited Arizona if they had won." Uh ..... yeah! You're right! President Barack Obama would have invited the Arizona Cardinals if they had won. That's the way it's been for years. Seriously, where's this guy been? The President doesn't want to "see" the Pittsburgh Steelers, he wants to "see" the world champions. If the mayor of Podunk, PA asks the Pittsburgh Steelers to come visit him at his house some year after the Steelers don't win a Super Bowl. Would the Steelers go? Of course not! But the Mayor really wants to "see" the Steelers, and it's not because they are world champs. But the Steelers steel won't go! Why? BECAUSE he's the mayor of Podunk. Do I really need to explain this? The leader of the free world doesn't want to meet all 32 NFL teams, 30 MLB teams, 30 NBA teams, 30 NHL teams and the 342 colleges playing D-I sports. He graciously meets with the champions. It's an honor the office of the President bestows on champions. Pittsburgh fans better be glad Harrison did accept the invitation to play in this year's Super Bowl. Because word on the street is, had the Baltimore Ravens won the AFC Championship, the NFL would have invited them to play in the Super Bowl. But shhh! Don't tell Harrison. |
