Don't look now, but those Rangers have won 7 in a row...

"Your Texas Rangers," to quote the great Chuck Morgan just finished off a perfect homestand. Yes, I said perfect homestand. The Rangers swept divisonal opponents Seattle and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, California United States...or whatever their name is. That's 6-0 homestand to improve to 14-6 at home on the year leaving Texas with a 9-8 road record. Texas also has a 10-2 record against their own division, And for the month of May, a usual misstep month for Texas, the Rangers are 13-3.

The reason for this 7 game-winning streak and the 23-14 record is, well everything. Pitching, defense and hitting have put the Rangers in this postion.

Let's take a look at the stats for the homestand:
Offense
34 runs scored - 5.6 runs per game
.277 batting average
56 hits - 12 by Michael Young
9 home runs - 3 by Josh Hamilton
13 doubles

Starting Pitching:
42.1 IP
37 Hits
12 Runs, 12 Earned Runs
2.56 ERA - yes, you read that right, a 2.56 ERA for the Texas Rangers starters

Total Runs allowed: 19 - 3.1 per game
3 saves on the homestand, 2 by C.J. Wilson, 1 by Darren O'Day

1 error during the entire homestand

While none of us know what the future is for the 2009 Texas Rangers, it sure is easy to get excited about this team. They have the day off Monday before traveling to Detroit, where they were swept earlier in the season. It's yet another chance for these Rangers to prove that first series against the Tigers was a fluke.

I'll be the first to admit, I was down and out a bit on this team after their 4 game losing streak early in the season, but I will say, I'm a believer now.
