Cowboys miss chance to honor Landry

Having Tom Landry's statue outside the Dallas Cowboys new stadium in Arlington is nice (the statue was outside Texas Stadium).

But Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had the opportunity to do more as he opens his $1.1 billion stadium.

I've written it before here that Jones should have honored the only head coach the Cowboys had in their first 29 years by putting his name on the stadium. And I'm not the only one who thinks this.

Tom Landry Field would sure have sounded nice.

The man who fired Landry could have made amends, but Jones has dollar signs on his mind.

Cowboys Stadium (that's what they'll call the new place in Arlington) lends itself to easily becoming AT&T Stadium, Pepsi Stadium or Exxon Mobil Stadium someday. I get that.

But Jones could have had it both ways.

How does AT&T Landry Stadium or Tom Landry Stadium sponsored by Pepsi and so on sound?

But no.

That would mean somebody else would have their name on Jerry's place and that just could never happen.

i agree, i think it should have reflected Tom Landry and who is the only person that is worth reflecting in the Cowboys history of coaches/owners/managers. I live in Arlington and NO I did not vote to have that huge place built here and screw up our roads and peoples lives when they bought their houses.

I agree, Jerry forgets that Landry is the reason he wanted to buy the Cowboys, $$$. Had Coach Landry not been so sucessful the Cowboy's brand would not be worth half what it is today and neither would Jerry. Another golden opprotunity missed again by the CLUELESS WONDER that is JERRY JONES!!!

JERRY JONES HAS FIXED IT WHERE IF YOUR NOT RICH OR HAVE SOME MONEY YOU CAN NOT EVEN AFFORD TO
GO THE STADIUM
WHY DONT THE JUST CALL IT JERRY'S LOSERS
THAT IS WHAT REALLY FITS THE SITUATION

BECAUSE I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR A MAN WHO EXPECTS THE PEOPLE TO STAND BEHIND HIM BUT HE DOES NOT
EVEN CARE ABOUT THE COWBOYS WORKERS THAT GOT
HURT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would not go to his stadium even if I was paid to.

I agree. The only thing bigger than the stadium is Jerry's ego and that wouldn't let him pay tribute to the man who made the Dallas Cowboys into America's Team that they are trying to live up to today. I say we start a grass roots campaign to call it Landry Field in spite of Jerry Jones.
