May 26, 2009 ArchivesDallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips isn't on Twitter... yet. Phillips had a little fun talking with the media today about the social networking site. "I was thinking about doing it myself," Phillips said with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek. Several NFL players, including Martellus Bennett and Terrell Owens, are regulars on Twitter. In fact, Owens took a shot at offensive coordinator Jason Garrett a...

I've been wanting to blog about this since last week, when Texas returned from a three-game sweep in Detroit. I heard one of the guys from a talk radio show describing how statistically bad the Rangers have been on the road in 2009. But really, they've only been bad in Detroit. Here are the splits: HOME (21 games): .295 batting average, 130 runs scored (6.2 per game), 35 home runs ROAD (23 games): .249 batting average, ...
The Dallas Cowboys released defensive back Tra Battle and defensive tackle Casey Tyler today. Battle played in five games and recorded five tackles after signing with Dallas on November 26, 2008 from San Diego's practice squad. Tyler signed with the Cowboys on May 1, 2009 after attending training camp with the Patriots in 2008 and spending the remainder of the season out of football. ...Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips says the Cowboys have a strong replacement for Greg Ellis at outside linebacker. Phillips effused extensive praise on Anthony Spencer. "We have a lot of confidence in Anthony Spencer," Phillips said. "He's a real talented player. "Anthony Spencer can play." The Dallas Cowboys receivers are looking strong against the team's secondary. In team drills, Travis Wilson, who was on the practice squad last season is getting lots of reps with the first and second team, made a nice over the middle catch. Roy Williams had a nice deep sideline catch, as did Patrick Crayton. Williams and Martellus Bennett also made nice end zone grabs. Head coach Wade Phillips looked at his secondary...
Wide receiver Patrick Crayton, left guard Montrae Holland and safety Gerald Sensabaugh are all working with first units on offense and defense. Crayton will battle to hold on to that spot with competition from Miles Austin. Holland is starting while Kyle Kosier works to return from an injury. Sensabaugh was signed as a free agent and is the likely starter with Ken Hamlin at safety. ...One of the criticisms of the Dallas Cowboys secondary in recent years has been that they don't get enough interceptions. Judging by a simple pass defense drill at today's OTA they're still struggling with catching would-be interceptions. Terence Newman, Pat Watkins and Orlando Scandrick all dropped lobs. It's not a good sign, especially since this is a low-intensity drill. As a result, several of the defensi...
Several news organizations are reporting the Cowboys are trying to trade veteran outside linebacker Greg Ellis. He is not at the OTA practice today and is not expected to attend any of the remaining sessions. ...UPDATE: Coach Wade Phillips said the team in investigating the incident, but said they feel like it "wasn't intentional." Asaph Schwapp, 22, is a rookie free-agent fullback from Notre Dame. He was arrested Friday for carrying a prohibited weapon. Schwapp was r...
Joe DeCamillis is simply amazing. The Dallas Cowboys special teams coach is at the team's second week of OTAs. He made an inspirational appearance coaching here last week too. He is as colorful as ever. Joe Trahan and I were just talking about how he would have been a star on HBO's Hard Knocks if he was with the team last seas...
