Game 2 of the playoff series between the Dallas Mavericks and Denver Nuggets started a lot like Game 1.

The Mavs came out to an early lead, including up 14-8 more than halfway through the first quarter.

But like in Game 1, the Nuggets proved more tenacious and athletic and also like Game 1 Josh Howard hurt his right ankle and had to go back to the locker room for evaluation. He won't return, according to coach Rick Carlisle.

Nuggets up 30-22 after one.

Dirk Nowitzki leads all scorers with eight points. Mavs had five turnovers.
