The Mavericks and Spurs represent one of the more lively rivalries in the NBA. Granted, it'll likely never rise to the level of Celtics/Lakers, but in Texas, this is one heated series. And one other thing you just can't miss- fans of both teams really can't stand each other. I've attended many Mavs/Spurs games, both in Dallas and San Antonio, and the level of trash talk back and forth is fairly intense. Has been for years now, even when the Mavericks weren't all that good. Spurs fans liked to rub it in when Dallas was down. And when the Mavs started becoming decent in the late 90's, this rivalry reached a whole new level. Suddenly, the little kid on the block was all grown up. And just realizing who the big bully in the neighborhood was. From talking to Spurs fans, they seem to generally think that Mavericks fans are spoiled, rich, snobby and self-entitled. Much of that stems from the reputation of Dallas itself, I think. Mavs fans believe Spurs fans are arrogant, obnoxious, and overly zealous for their one-horse town team. Mark Cuban helped fan the flames of this rivalry, when he trashed the Riverwalk in comments he made before a playoff series. No question, it's a lot of fun to witness the back-and-forth between fans of both teams. I've seen one instance in which the fun and talking almost came to blows out in the AAC parking lot after a game. But mostly, this is a rivalry with a lot of mutual respect flowing, even if fans from both sides don't want to admit it. This should be one heck of a series. 4 CommentsLeave a comment |

Spurs fans do not like Mavs fans bc Mavs fans are arrogant and speak as if the Mavs are better than the Spurs, when they're not. Spurs have more talent and have the banners to back it up. Mavs just have Stars banners hanging in their arena. Spurs fans go to games in their T-shirts and jeans to watch the sport, Mavs "fans" go to the games to BE seen in their suits and high heels. Everytime we debate about which team is better, a Mavs fan always has to advert to the Cowboys, the Stars, the Rangers. We're talking basketball, keep it with basketball.
Mavs fan don't like Spurs fans because our team is better and they know it!
Spurs fans hate the MAVS fans because we have more class. Spurs hate the fact that we truly bleed blue and green. We dont have to bring up the Cowboys, because everyone already knows da Cowboys are America's team!!!! We're going all da way this year!!! GO MAVS GO!!!!
I hate the Spurs for sheer fact that Timmy Duncan is the biggest cry baby in the league. Dirk cries too, but Timmy just takes it to a whole different level. Without Duncan, I wouldn't hate the Spurs near as much.
How about we hate the Spurs because they're floppers? They can't win a game without throwing themselves on the ground to get the fouls... That's not skill.
