Do you remember that feeling of elation after last Thursday's afternoon win and sweep of the trendy pick to win the AL central, the Cleveland Indians? I don't. All those warm, fuzzy feelings we had about the Rangers after 3 games are now gone. Texas has lost 4 in a row and to quote the famous Dennis Green, "They are who we thought they were!" Besides Kevin Millwood, the Rangers pitching staff has been downright abysmal. From Kris Benson's 7 ER in 5 innings to C.J. Wilson's blown 4 run lead in Detroit on Sunday, to having 6, yes 6 pitchers on staff with an ERA over 10. I know the stats can be inflated a bit early in the season, but the Rangers have a 6.60 ERA and are 13th(out of 14) in the AL in ERA. As bad as the pitching has been the last 5 games plus 2 innings(I'll leave Millwood out, he gets a pass with his 0.64 ERA) it seems to be all the Rangers staff can do is improve....unless they drop below Cleveland to take their cellar back as the AL's worst pitching staff. I've been a Rangers fan my entire life and I want nothing more to see a winning product on the field..but are you telling me those highly touted young arms of Feliz, Holland, Main, Beaven, etc. could do any worse than the group that's out there now? Here's hoping the staff can turn it around and carry the offense for a change rather the offense having to score 8-10 runs a game and carry the pitching. So here's to you Brandon McCarthy: Go get 'em tonight and lower that 5.40 ERA you're sporting right now. |
