Cowboys receiver Miles Austin has been getting a lot of attention around here since the team released Terrell Owens. Rightfully so. Austin has the combination of size (6-3, 216) and speed that great receivers are made of. And he is just 24. But now the New York Jets are after the Cowboys savior, according to the New Jersey Star-Leger. The good news for the Cowboys is that they can match any offer for Austin because he is a restricted free agent and the Cowboys signed him to a $1.54 million second-round tender, meaning if the Jets (or anyone else) reach a deal with him and the Cowboys decline to match then the Cowboys get a second-round pick in this month's draft. Austin played his college ball at Monmouth in West Long Branch, New Jersey, which is about an hour south of Manhattan. The Star-Leger suggests the Jets could even do something sneaky to get Austin back home. The Cowboys need to do everything reasonable to keep Austin. He has shown a dynamic play making ability (remember that game against Green Bay -- 2 catches, 115 yards and a touchdown?). With Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton, Austin is a key because he can stretch defenses. And after those three the receiving corps is pretty thin with Sam Hurd and Isaiah Stanback both coming back from injuries and both have limited game experience. Austin will make an impact wherever he plays. Cowboys fans should hope it's here. 2 CommentsLeave a comment |

I'd take a second round pick for Miles Austin all day long..
Jerry Jones is Still a fool. He is similar to a
doctor doing surgery on himself. He needs to get out of the spotlight and let qualified football
people run the team. Parcells handed him a
Superbowl quality team and look what Jerry has done already to destroy it. We will be drafting
in the top 5 in 3 years unless he backs off.
