If you frequent this blog at all, you know I've written several times about the Mavs jump-shooting tendencies and how that won't fly in the post-season. Just look at the tape of the Hornets series last year and you'll get what I mean. But, alas, MFFLer's there is the slightest reason for hope - look a the tape of the third quarter versus the Rockets yesterday. Down 14 and looking like there was no way they'd win, the Mavs did what I've been hoping they would - took it to the basket. Josh Howard was the catalyst - his penchant for driving the lane resulted in 13 points in the quarter, and the Mavs pulled off a stirring comeback that resulted in the sixth seed in the west, as opposed to the seventh. When the coaches are cutting up the tape, let's hope they make a highlight reel of that quarter and use it as a template for what to do when things get tough in the post-season. |
