Jerry, what were you thinking?

Like many of you, I was quite underwhelmed by the Cowboys' draft this weekend. And very confused.

Besides the many reaches and odd selections (a kicker, really?), the decision by Jerry Jones to trade out of the 2nd round and pass up making the 51st overall selection is a real head scratcher.

Pick 51 quickly became "Area 51" for the Cowboys. Nothing but mystery and oddity.

Jerry, you're really telling us that after the first 50 guys were taken, there's no one there you were all that interested in? You'd rather gather more picks to select on projects later? Anyone will tell you that in a draft, it's about quality, not quantity. Especially this year, with a decided lack of spectacular talent on the board.

Some players the Cowboys could have selected at #51: highly-touted Missouri safety William Moore, USC defensive tackle Fili Moala or massive Oklahoma tackle Phil Loadholt. Any of those three would have been very nice fits for the Cowboys in their "backup draft".

The Cowboys also could have drafted a wide receiver with pick 51. Two 2nd round receivers who made impacts last year: DeSean Jackson of the Eagles and Donnie Avery of the Rams. Granted, there were also 2nd round receivers who had little to no impact, but that's where scouting comes in- choosing the ones most likely to succeed. A couple of those 2nd or 3rd round receivers will turn out to be real finds. But the Cowboys continually passed up the chance to take the likes of Brandon Tate, Juaquin Iglesias, Ramses Barden and Mike Wallace.

Maybe Jerry thought it was Mike Wallace of 60 Minutes and decided to pass.

Drafting Aggies QB Stephen McGee with the first pick of the 4th round is troubling. McGee is a project at best and was largely considered a dissapointment at College Station after showing all-world talent coming out of high school. With your 4th round pick, you need someone who could make an immediate impact, not a guy who's going to be holding a clipboard for the next 5+ years. Chances are McGee would have been available later.

Only time will tell if this was a miserable draft or a decent one for the Cowboys. But the odds are not on their side.

My fingers are getting tired. I can't keep on
typing meaningless words explaining my dismay
over Jerry Jones and his silliness. I've got to
understand that there will be enough sheep that
will flock to his new palace that he will
continue to thumb his nose at us and put a poor
quality product on the field.

I am not defending Jerry's zaniness on draft day, after 20 years we should either get used to it or buy the team from him. It is his team, his stadium, his money...deal with it. It's not like he is ever going to ask our opinions or take anyone's advice...Tex, Tom, Jimmy and the Tuna are long gone. Grieve it out or find another team.

If those are the only options....then another team it shall be. Sunday Ticket. However there are too many sheep for anybody to notice the people that are going away.

Jerry-
With all due respect, you really screwed the pooch on the McGee pick. Not to fear, local Texan, Graham Harrell, is still a free agent.

Bring him in Jerry!
Give him a shot to beat out McGee! I bet you a set of season tickets at the new place that G-money Harrell and his touch pass rocket arm will be a great #2 behind Romo.

How could this guy slip through the draft?
