It's Just One Game, Rangers Fans

The way some have reacted to the Rangers' 9-1 win on Opening Day, you'd think playoff tickets were going to be printed tomorrow.

Fantasy baseball nerds everywhere are picking up Kevin Millwood. Outfielder Marlon Byrd said after the game that no one can play with the Rangers, provided their pitching shows up. And even the former President delivered a strike.

Overreacting and Opening Day go hand in hand. You can bet Yankee fans are cursing the day their club signed C.C. Sabathia, after he was rocked in Baltimore in his debut, for example.

Keeping perspective is very important...even as the Rangers sit at 1-0 after an impressive victory over Cleveland.

No doubt, Millwood's performance was a refreshing change. Certainly no one expects him to surrender only one run per outing, but if he can maintain that kind of control, get ground ball outs, and limit his free passes to batters, it means the Rangers should be competitive. Should.

There's no question that this lineup is fierce. They will bash homers at an alarming pace. The offense will even be able to occasionally overcome the limitations of the pitching staff.

And, dare we say it, even the defense looks improved.

But let's not forget...this is only one game. Let's see how Millwood, Padilla and Co. can deliver through an entire season, especially when the Summer heat really starts bearing down in Arlington.

That's an entirely new ballgame.

So we aren't supposed to uncork the champagne yet? I'm in agreement with Efren also, let us enjoy it while we can. It's been such a rarity.. and the rest of the Dallas teams aren't even allowing us that luxury at this time.

Yes Efren, I'm from North Texas. Been here since 1976. So, perhaps you should be silent instead. In any case, enjoy the win in any way you see fit. Just offering my perspective.

Take it or leave it.
