We've all heard about Ian Kinsler's spectacular night, hitting for the cycle on a 6-for-6 night, but did you know he's the first player in 119 years to do that. The last player to get six hits and hit for the cycle was William Farmer Weaver who did it on August 12, 1890 when he was playing for the Louisville Colonels. Kinsler also tied a number of Rangers records enroute to becoming the only Texas player with six hits in a nine inning game. He's the first Texas right-handed hitter to hit for the cycle as well. Alfonso Soriano had six hits on May 2004 but he did it in a ten inning game. Shortstop Michael Young says, "That was just a monster game." It happened on a night when everyone was wearing Jackie Robinson's number. Says Kinsler, "It's more special to do it on Jackie Robinson Day." |
