After a three-game sweep of the Cleveland Indians to start the season fans began to have high expectations for the Texas Rangers. Boy did that change quick. From sweeping to being swept, it was a much different Rangers team in Detroit. Against the Indians in Arlington the Rangers got timely hitting, good starting pitching and decent relief. The weekend series was ugly as the Rangers had their record evened to 3-3. The most frustrating part came Easter afternoon. Ace, and he's earning that description at this point, Kevin Millwood pitched seven scoreless innings. Then the bullpen blew it. Last year's closer, C.J. Wilson, gave up six runs in the eighth. The Rangers lost 6-4. The offense wasn't much better, scoring nine runs in the three game series. The Rangers scored 29 runs in their first three games. It's simple, really, no offense and poor pitching and you're not going to win. After giving up 15 runs in Friday's loss, the staff responded by allowing just four Saturday and through seven Sunday, but neither was enough. The Rangers lost 4-3 Saturday and then came Wilson's disastrous eighth. And so it goes. Want some good news? The Rangers are back in Arlington for a six-game home stand starting tonight with Baltimore and continuing this weekend with Kansas City. |
