History indicates ... Mavs lose tonight

The best way to predict the future is to study the past, right?

There's a neat website that gives the history of what happens in best-of-seven series. If you have some time to waste, check it out here.

The short version is this - when a team plays on the road in Game 1 and holds a 3-1 series advantage, that team wins Game 5 only 30% of the time. But the good news is this: that team goes on to win the series almost 90% of the time.

A lot of people are riding the Mavs bandwagon tonight, and it's hard not to. Head coach Rick Carlisle put it best last week when he said, When you win, it feels like you'll never lose. And when you lose, it feels like you'll never win again. The way Dallas has put together three wins in four games against the Spurs makes it easy to forget the Game 2 disaster.

History says the Mavs will have a tough time winning tonight. But hey, a 30% 3-point shooter can still hit the occasional three, so you never know.
