The Dallas Cowboys will have an easier time defending the New York Giants this season. The Giants cut wide receiver Plaxico Burress Friday. He's gone from Super Bowl hero to shooting himself in the thigh to now being out of a job. Burress accidentally shot himself with his Glock Nov. 29 in a New York City club. It's against the law in NY to carry an unlicensed handgun. Burress couldn't' get a license because he's not a resident of NY. The felony weapons charge could get him 3 1/2 years in prison, if convicted. The highlight of his four years in NY was that game-winning touchdown catch in the Super Bowl last year. Burress had just three catches for 34 yards against the Cowboys in his one game against them last season, but the year before he had 12 grabs for 168 yards and 3 in the two regular season games. When he's not suspended, Burress is a dynamic player who gave the Giants a legitimate receiving threat. Remember how that Giants' offense struggled without him? This is good news for the Cowboys -- as long as Jerry Jones doesn't try to sign him. Are you listening, Jerry? My colleague David Marcus has thoughts on this. |
