April 29, 2009 ArchivesRangers just released the following: Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced that tonight's scheduled contest against the Oakland Athletics has been postponed due to heavy rainfall and a forecast that calls for continued precipitation over the next several hours. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader between the Rangers and Athletics on Friday, May 29 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, with the first contest beginnin...
We just got back from Rowlett High School, where track and field coach David Nanez had a meeting with his athletes, at which he told them that the regional track meet was cancelled. A new report has just come out that the University Interscholastic League (UIL) is re-thinking that stance. You can read about it here. So the good news...
The executive committee of the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC) which consists of 18 schools in Texas and Oklahoma has decided to follow the lead by the UIL and cancel it's athletic events this week. SPC was scheduled to hold its state track meet at Greenhill School Thursday and Friday, but that event has been canceled. The SPC head of school and athletic directors will meet to decide further action. ...
UPDATE: Ted Madden looks at the impact on track athletes, while the UIL reconsiders. There was a collective gasp in the WFAA sports office when we got the news that the UIL is suspending all athletic competitions in the sta...
On our SportsTalk show, we've given props to Coach Carlisle all season long...even before this latest Mavs run in the postseason. I've admittedly ribbed him a little bit for being somewhat defensive to the media during interviews. We even ran a skit last week using a Carlisle look-alike, who was rude to us in a "mock interview". Ok, Carlisle will not be a star in Hollywood anytime soon. His personality leaves plenty to be desi...
There weren't many kids to get excited about during the Cowboys' recent draft but one of the better picks will join us in studio tonight. TCU linebacker/safety Stephen Hodge will be live tonight on SportsTalk on KFWD 52 at 6:30 PM. We'll play a game of Cowboys trivia with Hodge and if he can answer enough questions, he'll win two DVD's. Having grown up in nearby Tyler, I'm sure Hodge will be able to answer our tough questions ...
Now that the Mavericks have actually won a playoff series again, it's time to talk about the differences from last year's team to this year's group. Aside from a slew of new role players, the difference is coach Rick Carlisle. I heard Carlisle say on the radio this morning that the team took on the personality of the team this year, as opposed to last year when it took on the personality of their head coach. How true. "This is...
Not that the Mavericks were guilty of this, but some fans seemed to think the series was over after Dallas took a 3-1 lead on Saturday. Now that the Spurs have officially been defeated, what's next? Likely the Denver Nuggets, unless New Orleans can somehow bounce back from their 58-point home loss AND a 3-1 series deficit (in this case, I don't think it's too early to dismiss the Hornets). Dallas and Denver played four times th...
There are some basic rules you follow as a sports broadcaster. Apparently, MLB Network announcer Matt Vasgersian never got the memo. He made two bizarre comments while showing video of an injury to the Colorado Rockies' Brad Hawpe. The analysts beside him were beside themselves. What's more he has the gall to ask the folks in the control room to replay the video so he can compare an EMT to Eagles QB Donovan McNabb. Wow. That'...
The Dallas Mavericks exposed the San Antonio Spurs. A Mavs team that many of us thought was too old, not athletic enough and was on the way down. So it begs the question: How bad off are the Spurs? Part of the Spurs problem, and it was especially evident last night, is that they rely so heavily on their stars. Tony Parker and Tim Duncan are great players, but in the playoffs every team has great players. They're import...
Josh Howard's No. 1 wish for his 29th birthday became a reality Tuesday night as the Dallas Mavericks defeated the San Antonio Spurs on 106-93. The win allows the Mavericks to advance to the second round of post season play as they await the winner of the New Orleans Jazz & Denver Nuggets series. The Mavericks struggled on the road this season posting an 18-23 record. However, the team found a way to escape San Antonio winning 2 criti...
