New Rangers pitcher makes quite an entrance

9:54 PM Wed, Apr 22, 2009 |
Aaron Chimbel

In just a few hours Darren O'Day went from being picked up on a waivers claim by the Texas Rangers to crossing the border to Canada to being called in to pitch in a 7-7 game with runners on first and second in the bottom of the 11th.

He didn't even have his own jersey (he wore Kason Gabbard's #30). His teammates had never met him.

It didn't go well.

The sidearm righty gave up a gapper to Toronto's Kevin Millar. Arling...

Fenway Park

I just returned from a weekend trip to New England to visit a long-time friend who is getting his MBA in Boston. Trip and his wife Rachel were great hosts, and as usual we had a fantastic time.

We enjoyed some clam...

Mavs-Spurs game 5 time announced

5:03 PM Wed, Apr 22, 2009 |
Aaron Chimbel

Game 5 between the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs is no longer time TBA.

The NBA doesn't set game times for every game in a playoff series in case of a sweep, so they can still have a game to broadcast at that time. As we saw Monday night there will be no sweep.

So game 5 will tip at 8:30 p.m. Central Tuesday.

Here's the previously relea...

Very strange encounter with Rick Carlisle

4:50 PM Wed, Apr 22, 2009 |
David Marcus

We just had a very strange chance run-in with Rick Carlisle this afternoon and captured it all on film. I can't describe this bizarre encounter, except to say it shook us to the core. In the end, he was chasing us through a parking lot. All we wanted to do was ask him about Game 3 vs. the Spurs.

The Carlisle interview will air Thursday night on Tylock Lasik SportsTalk at 6:30 PM, on KFWD 52.

See it to believe ...

How good is Mavs' home cooking?

11:49 AM Wed, Apr 22, 2009 |
Ted Madden

So just how big is the Mavericks' home court advantage in this playoff series? Let's investigate...

A couple of generic records to begin: Dallas went 32-9 at home this year (including 32-5 since losing its first four). Since the all-star break, the Mavs are 15-1 at the AAC.

First of all, let me share a pet peeve of mine: during the playoffs, you'll hear numbers thrown around like "Team X is 22-3 when leading at halftime" or "Te...

Historic night for UTA baseball

11:46 AM Wed, Apr 22, 2009 |
Aaron Chimbel

What a night for the UTA baseball team... a record hit streak and a player hits for the cycle.

Here's the official release from UTA:

Tuesday night was a historic evening for the UT Arlington baseball team as Andrew Kainer improve his hit streak to 27 games - breaking the all-time school record - and Michael Choice became the sixth Maverick player ever to hit for the cycle going 4-for-4 in the Mavs' 23-7 victory over Northwood U...

Tony Romo staying busy

11:31 AM Wed, Apr 22, 2009 |
Aaron Chimbel

Tony Romo is not like you and me.

Not just is he the Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback and dating Jessica Simpson, but he is also a very good golfer.

So good, he's won two tournaments in the past few days.

It's how he spent his birthday, Tuesday (as you can see in this video).

But it's also part of the reason he gets so much critic...

TCU kicks student off sports talk show for having an opinion

10:40 AM Wed, Apr 22, 2009 |
Aaron Chimbel

I'm a very proud TCU graduate and a journalist.

That's why I was so upset when I read this story from today's TCU Daily Skiff, the campus newspaper.

Here's what happened, a journalism student that served as the TCU talking head on a Mountain West Conference sports talk s...
