Wake up call for Mavs

10:38 PM Mon, Apr 20, 2009 |
Aaron Chimbel

For all of you MFFL who, after game one, were already looking to the second round of the playoffs, well, it's not going to be that easy.

The Spurs are a proud team, a team with four NBA Titles in the past decade. They don't go down easy.

It sure helps when you have Tony Parker, but the Mavs aren't right tonight and it's more than just D...

Scary case of deja vu

Joe Trahan

MFFL, you're not gonna like this one. I'll make it short, though.

I just got this sinking feeling. I've been a little under the weather today, but its not that. It was deja vu. Can you figure out why? Think about it... c'mon you know what it is.... again, you're not gonna like it...

I feel like I'm back in New Orleans a year ago. Then it was Chris Paul; tonight its Tony Parker shredding the Mavs defense. When he's not bl...

Parker even better than advertised

10:11 PM Mon, Apr 20, 2009 |
Joe Trahan

If you watched Sports Special last night, you saw me ask Dallas Morning News NBA writer David Moore how Mavs fans had to be terrified at what Tony Parker was going to do in game two...

Not even I saw this coming. Parker was focused and near flawless in the first half. Not only using his speed and quickness, but near the end of the half, using his mind to get his teamates wide open shots.

I knew Parker would play with purpose,...

Cowboys re-sign Sam Hurd

Aaron Chimbel

The "Noodle" is sticking around for a while.

The Dallas Cowboys announced Monday they have re-signed restricted free agent wide receiver Sam Hurd.

It's not a surprise.

Hurd was tendered a one-year, $1.54 million contract. As a restricted free agent, if another team wanted to sign him the Cowboys would have gotten a second-round draft pick in return.

Hurd played in just three games in 2008 before landing...

Rangers' Daniels: 'Zero' talk of firing Washington

4:49 PM Mon, Apr 20, 2009 |
Aaron Chimbel

Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington's job is safe, for now.

Since that sparkling opening series for the Rangers, it's been mostly dreadful -- save for that 19-6 win last week that included Ian Kinsler's cycle.

After the opening sweep of the Indians the Rangers are 2-7 and the inevitable talk of firing Washington has surfaced, well except from general manager Jon Daniels.

"Ron's our manager," Daniels said Monday. "I ...

Game 2 is upon us

As you can tell by most of our blog entries for the day, we are focused on the Mavericks. I don't want to pile on to the what everyone else has said, but is there really anything else to discuss?

First, after going through a TON of interviews(Saturday night postgame, Sunday interviews), I get a different feeling about this Mavs team than years past.

A "chip" of a different kind

Pro Mavs, anti Cowboys fans

11:14 AM Mon, Apr 20, 2009 |
Aaron Chimbel

One writer has decided to become a big Dallas Mavericks fans, but says he doesn't like Dallas Cowboys fans.

"I've decided to become a huge fan of the Dallas Mavericks, the team that's going to win the NBA title this year," writes CBS' Cameron Martin (yeah, I've never heard of him either).

But on fans of our local football team: "Cowboys fans are imbeciles"

Mavs can't get cocky

10:41 AM Mon, Apr 20, 2009 |
Aaron Chimbel

The funny thing about a seven game series is that one game, no matter how impressive and gutsy doesn't mean a whole lot.

The Dallas Mavericks still have to beat the San Antonio Spurs three more times to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

What's even better is to take a 2-0 lead going home.

BUT and it's a big but, the Mavs can't get ahead of themselves. They can't be so impressed with themselves that they wo...

Pressure points: why Mavs fans should have hope

10:12 AM Mon, Apr 20, 2009 |
Joe Trahan

As we prepare for game two tonight, MFFLers here's reason for you to feel good about your team having a shot to knock off the Spurs.

There were a few points in the the Mavs game one win that lead me to believe this team may be more mentally tough than the last couple of Maverick squads that got bounced from the playoffs in the first round.

  1. Pressure Point #1 - Spurs build early lead.

San Antonio closes the first quarter...
